5-6 months contract with a local authority Rate: £400 per day umbrella Please note the client is looking for someone who can match this role not someone looking to Step up Summary This is a 5-6 month contract role with a local authority, offering a daily rate of £400 under an umbrella arrangement. The position requires a seasoned professional to deliver high-quality democratic, governance, and procedural support to the Cabinet, committees, panels, scrutiny bodies, elected members, and senior officers.

The role involves leading governance processes, aiding executive decision-making, preparing statutory documents, providing constitutional advice, and ensuring the Council fulfills its legal and democratic responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Lead the administration and governance support for Cabinet and Executive decision-making processes. Ensure all Cabinet business adheres to statutory requirements, constitutional provisions, and governance standards. Advise senior officers and elected members on procedural and constitutional matters. Maintain, coordinate, and publish the Council's Forward Plan.

Monitor and track key decisions, ensuring compliance with legal notice requirements and governance procedures. Collaborate with Directors and Heads of Service to identify upcoming decisions.

Requirements

Minimum of 4 years' experience in a Local Authority Democratic Services, Committee Services, Governance, or Scrutiny Services environment. At least 2 years' direct experience supporting Cabinet, Executive Committees, or senior political decision-making bodies. ADSO Certificate in Democratic Services Knowledge. ADSO Diploma in Local Democracy.

Degree or other higher education qualification. Qualification related to Governance, Public Administration, or Local Government. Additional Information Working hours are 37 hours per week. The role is based at 25 Windsor Road, Slough, Berkshire, SL1 2EJ, United Kingdom, with a work pattern of 2 days remote and 3 days in the office.

The position is a temporary vacancy due to the secondment of the existing post holder. Payments are made bi-weekly. The application deadline is 7th October 2026; apply as soon as possible.
