Job description
We are looking for a talented Engineering School to Work – Test Engineering to join our team for our business in Troy, MI . As a Test Engineering Team member, the School-to-Work (STW) will be responsible for assisting in the setup, running, and inspection of vehicle and mechanical lab based tests. In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways: Support Test Execution: Partner with Test Engineers to learn component functionality, testing methods, and test controller operations while contributing to successful test activities.
Facilitate Cross-Functional Collaboration: Participate in test kick-off meetings and help coordinate communication between Product Engineering, Product Validation, and Program Management teams. Provide Timely Project Updates: Monitor test progress and deliver regular status updates to internal stakeholders, helping keep projects on track and informed.
Serve as a Technical Liaison: Act as a key connection between Product Engineering and the Product Validation team to ensure testing requirements and outcomes are clearly communicated. Coordinate Test Material Flow: Assist with the movement, tracking, and labeling of test materials to ensure components are available for testing, storage, and analysis activities.
Enhance Test Documentation: Support Test Technicians by maintaining accurate test records, updating logbooks, and ensuring critical test information is properly documented. Contribute to Test Reporting: Compile test summaries and prepare abstract test reports that help teams analyze results and make informed engineering decisions.
Promote Safety and Laboratory Excellence: Support a safe, organized, and efficient laboratory environment by following Cummins safety standards and maintaining compliance with lab procedures and workplace expectations.
Education
Pursuing a technology degree (Associate’s or Bachelor’s) which can be related to mechanical lab testing. Experience Knowledge of automotive/commercial vehicle parts and assemblies; mechanical background prefer is desirable. Skills Proficient with personal computers, Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.
Familiar with CAD software. Familiar with spreadsheets and data logging. Able to communicate effectively with coworkers and internal customers. Physical Requirements Ability to lift 30 to 40 lbs. Stand for long periods of time. Pass basic physical examination and drug screen. The ideal candidate will have a genuine interest in mechanical systems, with exposure to or enthusiasm for automotive vehicles and automotive components.
