Job description
The Department of Physical Therapy and Human Movement Sciences at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine seeks a full-time non-tenure-eligible Clinician-Educator at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor or Clinical Associate Professor. Primary responsibilities include teaching and, as appropriate, course coordination within the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program.
The faculty member will teach across foundational and professional coursework including the following course series: Examination and Evaluation, Foundations, Psychosocial Aspects of Human Behavior, and Professional Role Development (PRD). Instructional responsibilities include guiding students through the systematic process of patient examination and evaluation; addressing psychological, social, and cultural factors that influence patient responses to illness and disability; introducing foundational patient management skills such as mobility training, positioning, and basic exercise prescription; and supporting professional formation through ethics, leadership, healthcare policy, and career preparation content.
Additional responsibilities include scholarship appropriate for a teaching-intensive Clinician-Educator role, student mentoring and advising, and service on departmental, programmatic, and accreditation-related committees. The successful candidate will contribute to a DPT curriculum that uses a spiral model, engages in team-based teaching, concept-structured, is grounded in scientific evidence, and emphasizes active student learning.
Qualified candidates must hold a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree and be eligible for physical therapy licensure. Applicants must have a minimum of five years of full-time clinical practice experience and at least two years of leadership or management experience. Broad generalist clinical experience across multiple settings is required.
Preference will be given to applicants with prior teaching experience in entry-level DPT curricula and demonstrated interest in or evidence of scholarly activity such as applied clinical research, educational scholarship, or quality improvement initiatives. The expected base pay range for this position is $110,000-$135,000.
The start date is negotiable and the position will remain open until filled. Northwestern University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal comparators; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
When applying, please upload a CV and cover letter describing your interest and alignment with the position. Also upload this completed list of references form to suggest the names of individuals who could write letters of reference on your behalf.
