Job Title: Chief Engineer Department: Engineering FLSA Status: Exempt Position Overview: The Chief Engineer provides leadership and technical expertise to the Engineering Department, overseeing the design, development, and production support of hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders and related components. This role is responsible for supervising engineering personnel, supporting cross-functional departments, and driving innovation through research, development, and custom product design.
The Chief Engineer ensures that engineering operations align with company goals, customer requirements, and industry standards, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement, quality, and teamwork.
Essential Duties
(Additional duties may be assigned as required.) Supervise and manage engineering personnel to ensure departmental efficiency and performance. Support Sales and Purchasing Departments with technical guidance on production and design inquiries. Provide accurate engineering drawings and specifications to production for manufacturing orders.
Process and oversee job orders for hydraulic and pneumatic cylinder projects. Engineer and design custom hydraulic and pneumatic products, parts, and modifications to meet customer specifications. Review, approve, and implement design change requests. Reverse-engineer customer-supplied products to create viable manufacturing solutions.
Research and develop new hydraulic and pneumatic cylinder technologies to expand the company’s offerings and capabilities. Train and mentor engineering staff to build technical expertise and leadership within the department. Coach and train employees on corrective action request forms to identify root causes and implement long-term solutions.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises employees in the Engineering Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Made2Manage, Auto CAD, and Internet Explorer.
Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree (B. A. / B. S.) from four-year college or university; more than 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to wear safety glasses and hard sole/close toed shoes with a low heel when walking through the manufacturing shop and/or repair shop whether as part of performing their job or just passing through. In addition, long hair must be tied back when around hazards of flame, machinery, or equipment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
