Corporate Accountant

• Salaried exempt Compensation: $110,000–$130,000 (DOE) Location: Lawrence NY - in the office full time Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) The Role (What You’ll Do) The Corporate Accountant is a hands-on role responsible for leading the day-to-day accounting function of a fast-growing, entrepreneurial company. Reporting directly to the CFO, this person will be the most senior accounting professional on a multi-person accounting and bookkeeping team. They will own the monthly close, P&L and financial reporting, cash management, working capital, AP/AR, reconciliations, and accounting controls. As the business grows, there is an opportunity to expand into a Senior Accountant role and broader accounting leadership responsibilities based on performance and business needs. Core Responsibilities Lead the monthly and year-end close, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements. Manage and analyze the monthly P&L, identifying trends and explaining significant variances to the CFO. Oversee general ledger activity, journal entries, accruals, bank and cash reconciliations, and balance sheet accounts. Monitor accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash flow, and working capital. Maintain strong accounting controls, accurate records, and audit-ready documentation. Coordinate and review work performed by accounting and bookkeeping team members. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow reporting, and financial analysis. Coordinate with the outside tax firm and provide financial information and supporting schedules for tax filings. Work with outside legal counsel as needed on accounting and financial matters. Identify opportunities to improve accounting procedures, reporting, internal controls, and workflow efficiency.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Active CPA license preffered 5+ years of progressive accounting experience. Proven ability to lead a monthly close and independently manage P&L reporting. Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial statements, and internal controls.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with a high degree of ownership and accountability. Comfortable using AI tools (e.g., Claude) to improve efficiency and accuracy while exercising sound judgment and protecting confidential financial information.

Preferred Experience Service industry experience (multifamily, commercial, or waste industry a plus) QuickBooks and Net.
