Job description

The Role:

As a General Mechanic, you'll be one of the first people we call when something needs attention, whether that's a guest's TV, a walk-in cooler in the LAK kitchen, or the irrigation along the lakefront grounds. You'll handle repairs, preventive maintenance, and guest requests with skill and hospitality, because at the Merriweather Lakehouse, how we fix something matters as much as getting it fixed.

What You'll Do:

  • Guest Response *
  • Respond quickly to guest repair requests, communicate directly with guests to resolve issues, and leave every room better than you found it

  • Program TVs and troubleshoot in-room tech, including internet devices, lamps, and cosmetic items

  • Welcome and acknowledge guests according to Autograph Collection standards, anticipate their needs, assist guests with disabilities, and thank them with genuine appreciation

  • Repairs & Maintenance *
  • Test, troubleshoot, and make basic repairs on guestroom and building equipment, including:

  • Plumbing (plunging toilets, clearing drains)

  • Electrical (replacing switches and outlets, repairing extension cords and vacuums)

  • Light bulb and A/C filter replacement

  • Handle surface prep, painting, minor drywall and wood trim repair, and complete cleanup of each work area. Our design-driven spaces depend on flawless finishes.

  • Perform preventive maintenance on kitchen equipment for LAK, The Rookery, The Osprey, and banquets, as well as mechanical room equipment and tools, including cleaning, lubrication, and visual inspections

  • Maintain and repair interior and exterior landscaping, including the lakefront grounds, patio, and sprinkler systems

  • Support event setups and patio programming as needed

  • Systems & Safety *
  • Know where every equipment and building utility shut-off is, and how to operate it

  • Use Lockout/Tagout before any maintenance work

  • Input air handler schedules and adjust temperatures through building systems

  • Follow all safety and security policies, report hazards, accidents, and injuries, store flammable materials properly, and complete required safety training and certifications

  • Team & Communication *
  • Pass each shift's activities and open issues to the next shift using approved communication tools

  • Maintain engineering and housekeeping-related inventory and requisition parts and supplies

  • Work closely with Housekeeping, Front Office, and Culinary so rooms and outlets are ready on time

  • Build positive working relationships, support team goals, and communicate clearly and professionally

What You'll Bring:

  • Basic knowledge of, or eagerness to learn, HVAC/refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic/electronic controls, carpentry and finish work, kitchen equipment, vehicles, energy conservation, and general building maintenance

  • A guest-first attitude and pride in detailed, finished work

  • Basic computer skills for work orders and building systems

  • A clean, professional appearance and discretion with proprietary information

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs on your own, and heavier loads with assistance

  • Climb stairs, service ramps, and ladders

  • Reach overhead and below the knees, bend, twist, and stoop

  • Perform other reasonable duties as requested

Qualifications:

  • Required: Valid driver's license

  • Preferred: High school diploma or GED; some experience in general maintenance, surface prep, and painting; hotel engineering or maintenance experience a plus

  • No supervisory experience needed
