Make A Lasting Impact Sunrise Engineering is looking for a dependable and safety-focused High Pressure Standby Technician to support natural gas utility work in the Utah County and South Salt Lake areas. This is a part-time/on-call position, and hours may vary depending on project activity and client needs. Candidates should have some flexibility to respond to scheduled standby requests.

Compensation

is $25-$35 per hour, depending on line locating, natural gas, high-pressure pipeline, and standby experience. This is a part-time position that is well suited for someone with previous utility line locating experience who is comfortable working independently in the field and around active excavation and high-pressure natural gas facilities.

Responsibilities

Provide standby support during excavation activities near high-pressure natural gas facilities. Locate and verify underground utility facilities using appropriate locating equipment. Monitor excavation activities to help ensure work is performed safely around existing gas infrastructure. Communicate clearly with excavators, contractors, utility personnel, and project representatives.

Identify potential conflicts or unsafe conditions and take appropriate action when necessary. Maintain accurate field documentation and records of standby activities. Follow client requirements, company safety procedures, and applicable utility damage-prevention practices. Travel to job sites throughout Utah County, South Salt Lake, and surrounding areas as needed.

Required Qualifications Previous underground utility line locating experience is required. Experience using line locating equipment and interpreting utility markings. Understanding of safe excavation practices and working around underground utilities. Ability to read utility maps, prints, and field documentation. Strong communication and situational-awareness skills.

Ability to work independently and make sound field decisions. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record as a company car will be provided Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and job-site conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous natural gas utility locating or standby experience. Experience working around high-pressure natural gas pipelines and facilities. Familiarity with excavation monitoring and damage-prevention practices. Experience working directly with contractors, excavators, or utility representatives. Knowledge of Utah's utility damage-prevention and 811 requirements.
