Job description

At UNCOMN, we don’t just fix issues; we deliver secure solutions that power essential operations in both the public and private sectors. Our team tackles tough challenges—whether it’s improving organizational systems, streamlining logistics, or making sense of complex data—all with one goal: helping our clients succeed so they can continue serving others.

We’ve built a culture rooted in our Core Values, where innovation thrives, work-life balance is respected, and career growth is always encouraged. We're also proud to be recognized as a ‘Top Workplace,’ and that’s not just us talking; it’s our employees. Now, we’re looking for another Uncommon Genius to join our dynamic team.

If you love solving puzzles, building new things, fixing what’s broken, or pushing the boundaries of creativity, we encourage you to explore the details of this position below! UNCOMN is seeking an ETL & Data Ingestion Engineer (Data Engineer/Scientist 3

  • Mid-Level) to support the Integrated Data Environment & Global Transportation Network Convergence (IGC) team.

Responsibilities

ETL and Informatica Engineering Lead the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of enterprise ETL and data-integration solutions using Informatica and related approved technologies. Develop and optimize Informatica mappings, transformations, workflows, sessions, parameter files, reusable components, scheduling configurations, and restart/recovery logic.

Modernize legacy ETL workflows by refactoring mappings, SQL, transformation logic, interfaces, and operational processes for approved database and cloud environments. Develop and optimize complex SQL queries, views, stored procedures, functions, indexes, and transformation logic supporting high-volume data-processing workloads.

Perform design and code reviews and establish reusable ETL patterns, development practices, and technical approaches for complex data-integration work. Data Ingestion and Interface Integration Design ingestion patterns for relational databases, APIs, web services, message-based interfaces, structured and unstructured files, and other approved enterprise data sources.

Design and implement batch, micro-batch, incremental, event-driven, and change-data-capture processing approaches based on approved mission, interface, and performance requirements. Analyze source-system structures, interfaces, dependencies, formats, and business rules and develop source-to-target mappings, transformation specifications, data dictionaries, lineage documentation, and interface-control artifacts.

Develop analytics-ready datasets, views, and data services supporting downstream applications, reporting, and approved business-intelligence platforms. Modify ETL mappings, SQL, connectivity, and transformation logic required to support migration to approved cloud-managed database platforms, including Amazon Aurora where implemented.

Coordinate interface changes with application, database, BI, testing, cybersecurity, and production-support teams to protect end-to-end data-flow accuracy and availability. Data Quality, Reliability and Performance Implement data profiling, validation, cleansing, standardization, reconciliation, deduplication, exception handling, and automated controls supporting data completeness, accuracy, timeliness, integrity, and consistency.

Develop validation queries, reconciliation reports, automated tests, and technical evidence to confirm transformation results and end-to-end processing behavior. Investigate and resolve failed workflows, rejected records, data discrepancies, interface defects, processing bottlenecks, and recurring data-quality issues.

Tune Informatica workflows, SQL, database access, transformation logic, and scheduling to improve throughput, scalability, processing time, and resource efficiency. Implement pipeline-level logging, metrics, alerting, audit trails, restart controls, and recovery procedures to support rapid diagnosis and restoration of failed or delayed processing.

Design and optimize ingestion and transformation processes to support IGC data-availability and latency objectives while minimizing processing backlogs and repeated failures. Secure Delivery and Automation Maintain ETL code, SQL, configurations, and supporting artifacts in approved Git repositories using established branching, review, and configuration-management practices.

Develop ETL-specific build, validation, test, packaging, and deployment automation within established GitLab CI/CD processes; coordinate platform and Runner requirements with Dev. Sec. Ops personnel. Develop scripting and data-processing automation using Python, Bash, Power. Shell, SQL, or comparable approved technologies.

Apply secure data-handling practices including least privilege, encryption, secrets protection, secure transfer, logging, and auditability, and support remediation of security findings affecting ETL and data-ingestion components. Provide technical evidence and remediation support for applicable RMF, STIG, secure-configuration, testing, and release activities associated with assigned ETL and data-integration components.

Technical Leadership and Documentation Prepare and maintain technical designs, data-flow diagrams, source-to-target mappings, interface specifications, data dictionaries, lineage documentation, deployment procedures, troubleshooting guides, and operational runbooks. Lead technical design discussions for complex ingestion, transformation, and interface requirements and identify technical risks, dependencies, and recommended mitigations.

Mentor ETL developers and data engineers and provide guidance on Informatica development, SQL, data quality, performance tuning, testing, and maintainable data-integration design. Collaborate with software developers, database engineers, BI developers, cloud/Dev. Sec. Ops engineers, cybersecurity personnel, testers, functional analysts, Product Owners, operations staff, and Government stakeholders.

Participate in Agile planning, technical reviews, sprint demonstrations, release activities, defect resolution, and production-support efforts as assigned. This position description outlines the core duties for this role, but it is not all-inclusive.
