High School English and STEM Teacher

PCV, Sierra LeonePosted Oct 16, 2026

Job description

Communities in Sierra Leone are looking for aspiring and experienced teachers to support high school students succeed academically for a promising future. One of the greatest challenges in Sierra Leone’s education system is ensuring that young people stay engaged and supported throughout their learning journey, particularly in communities with limited resources and technology.

A recent survey discovered that nearly one in four children between the ages of 6 and 18 was not attending school, and two thirds of those out-of-school children had never enrolled. The students who attend school still face barriers to learn. Many shoulder extensive household responsibilities before and after school, while others are raised by caregivers who may be unable to prioritize their education.

Some walk long distances to school, often arriving hungry and exhausted. At home, a lack of emotional support can impact the children’s self-esteem and confidence, making them less likely to participate in class or persist through academic challenges.

Education

has become a national priority, and communities across the country are working with renewed energy to create brighter opportunities for their youth. As a High School English and STEM Teacher, you will collaborate with Sierra Leonean educators to develop and implement effective teaching strategies—ensuring all students feel supported and challenged.

Together, you’ll facilitate student-centered activities, develop classroom resources, and nurture a positive reading culture. Your efforts will elevate students’ achievements and contribute to the country’s growth.
