Inspection Systems (Optics) Engineer
Job description
Job Description Summary Activities aimed at proving a concept to be valid or technically feasible by the application of scientific and engineering methodologies. Work in this family typically has the objective of demonstrating through test or analyses the performance and implementation potential of a concept Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution.
The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance. Job Description Site Overview Established in 2000, the John F. Welch Technology Center (JFWTC) in Bengaluru is our multidisciplinary research and engineering center.
Engineers and scientists at JFWTC have contributed to hundreds of aviation patents, pioneering breakthroughs in engine technologies, advanced materials, and additive manufacturing. Roles Overview: System-Level Inspection Technology Development Lead the architecture, design, and integration of end-to-end inspection systems, including sensors, electronics, data acquisition, and analytics.
Translate inspection requirements and performance targets into system specifications and test plans. Own system-level trade-off decisions across hardware, software, and inspection performance. Signal Analytics and Inverse Problem Solving Develop and implement signal analytics methods for processing, denoising, and interpreting inspection data.
Formulate and solve inverse problems to infer material states, defects, or geometry from measured signals. Drive implementation of advanced algorithms (e.g., optimization, reconstruction, classification) to improve detection and characterization. Sensor Technology and Miniaturization Lead efforts in sensor selection, design, and miniaturization for embedded, portable, or integrated inspection solutions.
Evaluate and optimize sensor performance, robustness, and reliability in realistic operating environments. Partner with internal and external stakeholders to integrate miniaturized sensors into inspection platforms. Technical Leadership and Mentoring Provide technical leadership on inspection technology, signal analytics, and system integration topics.
Review designs, algorithms, and test results to ensure technical rigor and alignment with project objectives. Testing, Validation, and Continuous Improvement Plan and lead system-level tests , pilots, and validation activities in lab and field environments. Analyze performance metrics and identify opportunities for improvement in sensitivity, robustness, and usability.
Document system behavior, limitations, and lessons learned, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Cross-Functional Collaboration Collaborate with design, manufacturing, operations, quality, and product management teams to ensure inspection solutions meet business and customer needs. Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Contribute to roadmaps, proposals, and strategy for inspection technologies and related products. Ideal Candidate: Should have experience in inspection or medical imaging technology, sensor systems. Required Qualifications Industry Experience 2-3 years of industry experience in inspection or medical imaging technology, sensor systems, signal analytics, or closely related areas.
System-Level Expertise Proven track record building complete systems (from concept to deployment) that integrate sensors, data acquisition, and signal processing. Desired Qualifications: Humble: respectful, receptive, agile, eager to learn Transparent: shares critical information, speaks with candor, contributes constructively Focused: quick learner, strategically prioritizes work, committed Leadership ability: strong communicator, decision-maker, collaborative Problem solver: analytical-minded, challenges existing processes, critical thinker.
