Job Summary
As a Manager Research Consultant (MRC) focused on the Private Equity asset class, you will be responsible for working collaboratively as part of the Private Equity team. This role will work on all aspects of researching private equity investment managers, from market research, initial meetings, quantitative & qualitative reviews, investment manager on-sites, and ultimately presentation to internal and external clients.
You will work in concert with the Senior Consultant in the asset class to develop strategic direction for the asset class and a robust manager forward calendar, as well as independently lead due diligence on managers from that forward calendar. You will ensure robust diligence and manager documentation and database management for internal and external stakeholder communication.
You will also partner with and mentor RVK’s Associates and Senior Analysts on the private equity team. MRCs have significant client-facing responsibilities as well, including presenting to client investment committees both virtually and in person. Successful candidates are demonstrate quality general partner working relationships, detailed due diligence skills, and the ability to work as part of a team to implement the RVK research philosophy.
This role will balance client-facing responsibilities with research-driven due diligence.
Duties and Responsibilities
Significantly contribute to the initial discovery and evaluation of investment managers within Private Equity. Successful candidates will bring existing relationships and will drive opinions on the forward calendar and diligence pipelines. Coordinate private equity philosophy and research process with Private Equity Senior Consultant and Director of Alternatives.
Maintain and execute due diligence documentation in the internal-facing RVK manager portal, facilitating firmwide dissemination of research and opinions. Work collaboratively with all of the private equity team, including training and mentoring to Senior Associates, Associates, and Senior Analysts on research activities.
Periodically present investment recommendations and education topics to clients, Boards of Directors, Investment Committees and Trustees. Complete quarterly reviews of the asset class, broad market evaluation as well as key manager exposure analysis. Work directly with clients and client teams to manage requests, including the search (best ideas/RFP/RFI/etc.)
process and determine best candidates in your assigned asset class. Communicate asset class research to clients and consulting teams effectively through both written and verbal communication. Communicate continually with investment managers, understanding firm changes, team changes, and portfolio exposures. Meet with investment managers in-person, via conference call, or on-site at investment managers’ offices.
Keep consultant teams informed of any pertinent information regarding company clients’ investment managers. Represent RVK / IMR at new business opportunities, conferences, speaking engagements, and press opportunities Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Economics Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and/or Master’s degree preferred Eight (8) years or more of industry experience in investment manager research or related endeavors with a significant amount of time focused on private equity Ability to travel (averages 3-6 days per month) Preferred Qualifications Prior experience as an influential contributor to portfolio construction Familiarity with research database tools such as Preqin, Pitch.
