Job Details: Position Type: Seasonal, Salary Range: Undisclosed, FUNCTION: The Registered (RN) Nurse is responsible for overseeing the health, safety, and wellbeing of all campers and staff. This includes providing daily medical care, administering medications, responding to emergencies, maintaining health records, and promoting wellness throughout the camps.
The RN works collaboratively with camp staff to create a safe and supportive environment, ensuring compliance with health regulations and fostering a positive camp experience for all participants. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Member Services Create a warm, welcoming environment for all Maintain a safe and healthy environment for campers, abiding by all camp rules/policies Able to assist campers in an emergency Programming Provide health care to meet individual needs of camp staff and campers Collaborate with other medical staff to meet medical needs Follow health care policies/procedures as described in the Healthcare Manual and treatment procedures Organize, maintain, and utilize adequate resources for serving the health and medical needs of the campers and staff Set up the camp Health Center/Infirmary Inventory and order all necessary medical supplies and equipment Maintain accurate and detailed medical records according to State of CT Office Of Early Childhood Youth Camps and American Camp Association Standards Ensure staff and camper health examinations are current and on file Prepare and utilize daily medical log for treatment and medications Prepare and record insurance and accident report forms Oversee First Aid procedures and supplies Prepare and distribute first aid kits throughout camp including camp vehicles, kitchen, offices, waterfront, activity areas, out-of-camp trips Ensure supplies are well stocked and distributed as needed Ensure a staff orientation session is delivered on medical services Ensure camp staff and campers know their role related to health care and first aid Provide or ensure orientation is provided that includes standing orders, clinic hours, specific camper health and social needs, health center procedures, emergency procedures, growth and development of age groups, staff health assessment of campers, policies on contacting parent/guardians, transportation to outside health facilities, accident prevention and risk management, nutrition, and first aid in the camp setting Screen all campers and staff who are arriving and departing camp Verify health history and examination Verify emergency authorization Identify any observable evidence of illness or communicable diseases Conduct a health assessment Keep all medications used by campers and staff Supervise sanitary conditions throughout camp Observe daily cleanliness in the food service facility and other areas throughout camp Report any health problems or symptoms of illness to the Camp Director Other Job Duties: Attend all mandatory staff orientations, meetings and trainings Perform any tasks beyond those assigned as help is needed Provide leadership in the camp’s risk management program Develop a resource file and obtain information and/or literature concerning health in the camp community Be responsible for contacting parent/guardians/guardians concerning the status of their child’s health by telephone in the following situations: any injury requiring an x-ray, illness requiring an infirmary stay and emergency treatment/accident, etc.
Be knowledgeable of outside health resources Evaluate medical services Customer Service Provide excellent customer service, both internally and externally Resolve customer problems and conflicts Responds promptly to customer needs Solicit customer feedback to improve service Qualifications: JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Minimum 21 years old.
Registered nurse (RN) with a license as required by that state law Experience: Experience in both children and adult illness/injury care Licensure: Required: Current CT RN license; CPR/First Aid for children; Epi Pen Medication Administration. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to read and follow directions on medication labels, health forms, physician orders, and parent/guardian/guardian letters Maintain written record system Observe and assess sanitation and safety conditions of the camp Ability to communicate with parent/guardians, staff, and administration about camper health concerns Possess endurance to meet emergency needs Ability to work effectively with others Ability to consistently deliver quality patient care Must have the ability to enforce all facility rules and policies in a gentle but firm manner to people of all ages SPECIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS: Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while sitting or standing for long periods of time Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds WORK ENVIRONMENT: Ability to quickly get to remote locations on camp property over uneven terrain Exposure to weather conditions; outdoor activities
