Job description

Head of Anti-Piracy & Platform Partnerships About the Role: Jio. Star is India's leading media and entertainment business, home to Jio. Hotstar (500M+ monthly active users) and the exclusive home of the IPL (₹47,551 Cr rights value), ICC events and India's most-watched entertainment. With piracy costing India's video sector an estimated $1.

2 billion annually, content protection is a key priority. This is a build-and-lead mandate. The function operates as a lean, intelligence-led command centre. The Head of Anti-Piracy & Platform Partnerships will own operational strategy, platform governance, vendor management, law enforcement coordination and live-event readiness across domestic and future international markets.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Operations: Own end-to-end execution of Jio. Star's anti-piracy strategy across broadcast, OTT, IPTV, social media and emerging ecosystems. Define the function's operating model, KPIs and business-impact metrics — moving beyond volume-based takedown counts. Lead international expansion planning: jurisdictional scoping, coalition partnerships, and phased capability build-out.

Platform Partnerships & Escalation: Own senior relationships with Meta, Google/YouTube, Telegram, ISPs, hosting providers, registrars and CDNs. Lead escalation pathways for high-priority takedowns, repeat-offender action and live-event enforcement. Represent Jio. Star in industry coalitions and platform trust & safety forums (ACE, IBCAP, AAPA and equivalents).

Live-Event Anti-Piracy Operations: Command the live-event anti-piracy operation for IPL, ICC and premium events — 24/7 control-room oversight, mobilization within hours. Establish playbooks for restream takedowns, app-store enforcement and ISP-level blocking during marquee fixtures. Intelligence, Investigations & Vendor Governance: Oversee the Intelligence & Investigations and the Data, Automation & Vendor Governance portfolio; ensure intelligence precedes every enforcement action.

Govern the external vendor ecosystem: set SLAs, manage performance, rationalize the partner footprint and drive automation. Law Enforcement, Legal & Regional Coordination: Build senior relationships with national and state law enforcement, cyber cells, and MIB. Direct Regional Enforcement Coordinators on field operations, raids and state-level piracy disruption.

Partner with in-house Legal on orders, dynamic injunctions, site-blocking and criminal complaints. Executive Engagement: Drive cross-functional coordination with Business, Legal, Distribution, Content Operations and Technology. Deliver executive reporting on threat landscape, enforcement outcomes and business impact to senior leadership.

Required Experience & Capabilities: 15+ years in OTT, digital media, broadcasting or Trust & Safety, with a meaningful share in content protection, anti-piracy, fraud or platform integrity. Proven track record managing complex, multi-stakeholder enforcement programs at scale across digital, broadcast and physical distribution.

Direct engagement with Meta, Google/YouTube, Telegram, ISPs and hosting providers at a senior governance level. Deep, current understanding of digital piracy ecosystems — illegal IPTV networks, restream chains, Telegram piracy, cyberlockers and app-based modalities. Intelligence orientation — approaches problems as an investigator, not an operator; comfortable with attribution analysis and OSINT outputs.

Systems thinking, platform ecosystem fluency, operational maturity and strong stakeholder management at executive, regulatory and law-enforcement levels. Live-event content protection operations experience strongly preferred. Alternative Backgrounds Considered: Jio. Star will actively consider Ex-Armed Forces SSC officers (Indian Navy / Air Force) from Signals, Intelligence, Cyber or Information Warfare backgrounds with demonstrable platform-ecosystem fluency.
