Robson Forensic is looking for an individual with a strong technical mechanical engineering foundation who is driven by curiosity. This Laboratory and Field Investigator role offers a rare entry point into forensic engineering, supporting elite testifying experts by uncovering the mechanics of complex incidents.

Job Summary

The Laboratory and Field Investigator supports our testifying experts (engineers, architects, fire investigators, and accident reconstructionists) by performing scene documentation, photography, measurements, laser scans, Event Data Recorder (EDR/”Black Box”) data extraction, as well as preparing and processing scene data and available evidence for analysis performed by our experts.

This position offers a unique entry point for a new Engineer-In-Training (E.I.T.) The position provides exceptional mentorship, skill development, case variety and a clear pathway toward accumulating the necessary experience satisfying the requirements for the Professional Engineering Exam.

Responsibilities

Operate, calibrate, and maintain all laboratory and field-testing equipment in accordance with calibration schedules and manufacturer requirements Assist with and independently conduct scene documentation including field measurements, photography, 3D laser scanning, and drone photogrammetry Extract and analyze Event Data Recorder (EDR/”Black Box”) data from vehicles using tool and interpret outputs in the context of crash mechanics Maintain proficiency with reconstruction simulation software (HVE, PC-CRASH, or equivalent) and 3D scene modeling tools Maintain, inspect, and replenish all field investigation equipment including cameras, lighting, PPE, evidence collection kits, and scene documentation tools Perform on-site inspections and field data collection; overnight travel will be required (approximately 10% of total time).

Other related projects as needed.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution License : Active E.I.T. license preferred, not required. Computer Skills : Proficiency in MS Office Suite; experience with any of the following is desirable: MATLAB, CAD software, laser scanning, test equipment setup and data collection, and 3D printing.

Office Skills : Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail. Able to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment. Communication Skills : Strong written and verbal communication skills. Abilities : Hands-on experience and ability to operate mills, lathes, cutting equipment, welding equipment, and other fabrication equipment and processes is desirable.

Work Style : Must be able to work onsite at our lab with occasional field assignments as needed. Other: A clean background screen , a valid driver’s license, and the ability to drive passenger cars and light trucks.
