Technical Services Librarian

The City of Indianola is currently welcoming applications for the position of a full-time Technical Services Librarian.

The City of Indianola (pop. 16, 069) is a growing community with a historic downtown, located approximately 15 minutes south of Des Moines. It is a safe community with Midwestern values, friendly people and excellent schools. Indianola, which is home to Simpson College, the world-renowned Des Moines Metro Opera and the National Balloon Museum and U.S. Ballooning Hall of Fame, is known for its excellent access to outdoor activities, a nice trail system, five major parks and two golf courses. The community welcomes thousands of visitors annually who come to Indianola to enjoy major events such as the National Balloon Classic, the Warren County Fair and other events.

Under the Director's supervision, coordinates the day-to-day operations of circulation services while performing and overseeing technical services activities that support the organization, accessibility, and maintenance of the library's collections. This position provides excellent service to library users, supervises circulation workflows, and performs duties related to cataloging, classification, acquisitions, processing, and collection maintenance.

This position is responsible for a number of tasks, including, but not limited to:

• Coordinates daily circulation operations, and resolves issues related to patron accounts and library records.

• Monitors circulation activity and resolves patron account, materials, and service issues.

• Trains Library Assistants in circulation tasks.

• Manages and maintains the library's Integrated Library System (ILS), print management systems, and circulation software to resolve technology issues, updates, upgrades, and replacements.

• Servers as liaison between the library and automation vendors, sales representatives and City technology staff to resolve technology issues, updates, upgrades, and replacements.

• Develops, implements, and manages cataloging, processing, mending, and overdue procedures of library materials.

The successful candidate will have:

• Associates degree from an accredited college or university required, with a Master of Library Science degree preferred.

• 1-3 years prior experience working in a library or experience working with targeted age groups; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

• Proficiency in working with computers and on-line electronic resources.

• Must have Public Library Staff Certification with the State of Iowa or become certified within one year of employment.

Salary range is $28.08/hour ($58,426.92 annually) to $37.95/hr. ($78,393.97 annually) with benefits. This is a full-time union position with a comprehensive benefits package that includes vacation, sick leave, personal leave, life insurance and AD&D, short and long-term disability, health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement, tuition reimbursement, and an employee assistance program.
