Animal Services Dispatcher / Administrative Assistant Job Description Exempt: No Department: Animal Services Reports To Animal Services Director Location: 6119 E. Highland Dr. Jonesboro AR GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION This safety sensitive (SS) position is responsible for receiving emergency and administrative calls from the public and dispatching the appropriate emergency personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Receives, monitors, and dispatches radio communications traffic for Animal Services, Code Enforcement and Police. Performed Daily Receives and screens incoming telephone calls, E-mails and walk in complaints from the public and other Public safety agencies, categorizes and prioritizes calls during emergency. Performed Daily Dispatches the Animal Services Officer(s) to incident locations, provides information to E911 Dispatcher if any other emergency service is needed.
Performed Daily Maintains a continuous log of incoming telephone and radio calls, logs incoming calls. Performed Daily Monitors and routes incoming messages from national and state computer networks. Performed Daily Checks Animal Services data bank for additional information to include registered dangerous dogs, calls for service, warning citations and warrants.
Performed Daily Participates in training exercises to include in-house training, Shelter Pro, ACIC recertification, Euthanasia Certification, etc. Performed as needed. Completes work site and front lobby to include public restrooms cleanup. Performed Daily Updates contact list. Performed Daily Trained in animal medical care and inoculations.
Performed only in an emergency. Certified as a Euthanasia Technician, euthanizing and maintain records. Performed only in an emergency need. Provide clerical tasks, entering data, answering phone, interacting with public, keeping up with service calls and logging information. Performed daily. Issues warnings and court citations.
Performed as needed. Assist with adoptions or surrenders, photograph animals and preparing intake cards. Performed as needed. Operating and driving a ½ or ¾-ton truck. Performed as needed Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Mental alertness and adaptability to office and field area work routines. Equivalent to four years high school or GED, with particular emphasis during high school in office skills, shop skills, or others, plus 7 to 11 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. COMMUNICATION SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and understand general business/company related articles and professional journals; Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers. Ability to perform these mathematical skills using money and other forms of measurement. CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS Ability to utilize common sense understanding in order to carry out written, oral or diagrammed instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several known variables in situations of a routine nature.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Ability to be ACIC & NCIC certified. PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Not indicated. SOFTWARE SKILLS REQUIRED Office and Mobile Computer to include Ticket Citation programs and Shelter Pro., Word, Excel, RPS, RMD, Atlas and other programs. INITIATIVE AND INGENUITY SUPERVISION RECEIVED Under immediate supervision, performs general assignments of work, with periodic check of performance by supervisor.
