Associate Researcher II - Hematology & Medical Oncology
Job description
The Associate Researcher II will work in the laboratory of Hanna Irie and will be engaged in translational breast cancer research projects focused on regulators of growth, survival and drug resistance, as well as the tumor microenvironment. The researcher will use a broad range of approaches (genetic, cell biological and in vivo modeling) to understand how breast cancers, particularly triple negative breast cancers, resist chemotherapy treatments and metastasize.
The projects also examine novel mechanisms that contribute to the growth and metastases of triple negative breast cancers. The researcher will utilize patient-derived xenograft models of breast cancer and organoid cultures to screen and validate novel therapeutic strategies in collaboration with chemical biologists. The researcher will also study how the immune microenvironment regulates response of breast and other cancers to chemotherapy/targeted therapies.
The researcher will be expected to design and conduct experiments, be responsible for accurate record keeping and contribute to overall maintenance of the laboratory. Conducts experiments using advanced research techniques specific to subject matter of the research project. Analyzes and assists in interpreting moderately complex results.
Performs assays to support research studies. Assists in new and unexpected research experiments and techniques. Assists in the collection, analysis and review of experimental data for publication and presentation. Performs other related duties Technical Duties: (include any protocols) Cell culture Western Blot Cell viability assays qPCR DNA preparation (bacterial transformation, DNA extraction, transfection) Lentivirus production Mouse handling-tumor cell injections, mouse surgeries, IVIS imaging Flow cytometry Organoid development and culture Microscopy Lab record keeping Contribute to laboratory maintenance Bachelors Degree in sciences or related field or equivalent experience 2 years in a research environment or 1 year plus Masters Degree in sciences or related field 2 years of wet bench laboratory experience strongly preferred Background in cell biology/models, genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, or immunology preferred Experience with mouse tumor models and related procedures (handling, tumor cell injection, flow cytometry, mouse surgical procedures, IVIS imaging) strongly preferred
