Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity This is a senior commercial role responsible for the contractual and financial administration of an infrastructure project. Working closely with the Project Manager, you will help create a no-surprises environment by applying a consistent commercial approach, managing contractual and financial matters, resolving stakeholder issues and providing early warning of unexpected financial outcomes.

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will provide sound commercial and contractual leadership across project operations while supporting effective financial controls, stakeholder relationships and Health and Safety performance. Your key responsibilities will include: Applying a consistent and sound commercial approach across project operations in accordance with Downer policies.

Advising management on contractual and commercial matters, including preparing correspondence and contributing to meetings with clients, consultants and providers. Identifying, developing and managing variations, extension-of-time claims, insurance claims and associated commercial outcomes. Managing procurement and the contractual and financial administration of suppliers and subcontractors.

Measuring and valuing subcontractor work, assessing entitlements and administering contra charges where appropriate. Maintaining accurate and timely project financial reporting, payment claims, payment certificates and receivables. Providing contractual support to site teams and strengthening their understanding of contract administration requirements.

Supporting Quantity Surveying team members to establish clear objectives and develop their capability. Leading by example and promoting safe, environmentally responsible and quality-focused working practices. Nga pūkenga matua | Important Skills: You will be an experienced commercial professional who communicates clearly, offers practical and timely advice, and builds constructive relationships with project teams, clients, consultants and providers.

You will be comfortable working under pressure in an integrated team environment and capable of balancing detailed contract administration with the wider commercial needs of a major infrastructure project. You must have: A BSc, National Diploma or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or Civil Engineering. At least eight years’ site experience on infrastructure projects valued above NZ$50 million, working as the commercial lead across both upstream and downstream activities.

The ability to perform effectively under pressure in a fully integrated team environment. A sound understanding and practical application of NZS 3910 and related standard-form documents. NEC and Fidic knowledge and application would be beneficial. Comprehensive knowledge of contractual management, including interim and final progress payments, measurement, record keeping and contract variations.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The flexibility to work on projects outside your home base when required.
