Mechanical Engineer, ELSFP Laser Product Development Location: Hsinchu, Taiwan (on-site) Ayar Labs is shattering AI data bottlenecks by moving data at the speed of light. Ayar Labs is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our ELSFP laser product development team in Hsinchu, Taiwan.

The successful candidate will own mechanical design from concept through mass production, working closely with optical, thermal, electrical, and manufacturing partners. This role requires strong hands-on design, drafting, tolerance analysis, and supplier/CM engagement, along with a focus on thermal and opto-mechanical integration.

Essential Functions

Develop 3D models for parts, sheet metal, and assemblies using SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD, or Pro-E. Create professional 2D drawings and assembly drawings with GD&T for supplier and CM manufacturing. Perform dimension and tolerance stack-up analysis to support manufacturability and optical alignment requirements. Design for opto-mechanical, thermal, and electrical integration of laser modules and systems.

Lead thermal design and perform thermal and structural simulations (e.g., ANSYS, Icepak, FloTHERM, COMSOL). Apply DFM and DFx principles to ensure designs are manufacturable, testable, and reliable. Manage BOM creation and maintenance, part number preparation, and design documentation control. Execute change management processes including ECO, ECR, DCO, ECN, and PCN.

Support hands-on assembly, validation of parts and products after manufacturing, and product assembly and testing. Lead failure analysis (FA), root cause and corrective action (RCCA), and 8D problem-solving. Provide active technical support to mechanical, optical, and electrical suppliers and contract manufacturers (CMs) through NPI and mass production.

Drive new product development from design phase through mass production (MP). Use workflow and PLM/BOM tools such as ARENA and JIRA, or similar platforms. Travel domestically and internationally as required to support suppliers, CMs, and customers. Required Qualifications Master degree in Mechanical Engineering Proficiency in 3D CAD and 2D drafting (SolidWorks, Creo, Pro-E, or AutoCAD), including sheet metal and assembly design.

Working knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis. Experience with thermal and structural simulation tools (ANSYS, Icepak, FloTHERM, COMSOL, or similar). Experience with DFM/DFx and NPD from design phase through mass production. Experience managing BOMs, part numbers, design documentation, and engineering change processes (ECO, ECR, DCO, ECN, PCN).

Hands-on assembly experience and experience validating parts and products after manufacturing. Experience with FA, RCCA, and 8D problem-solving. Experience working with mechanical, optical, and electrical suppliers and CMs. Strong English communication skills (written and verbal). Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Experience with optical products such as transceivers, AOCs, ELSFP, NPO, or CPO. (Strongly preferred) Experience with thermal products such as cold plates, vapor chambers, heat pipes, and thermal interface materials (TIM). Experience with or knowledge of mechanical manufacturing processes such as die casting, CNC machining, forging, plating, injection molding, etc.

Experience with opto-mechanical-thermal-electrical integration. Experience with product assembly and testing processes. Familiarity with ARENA, JIRA, or similar BOM and work management platforms.
