26 � $85,857.57 annually Position Summary Next STEP is a collaborative 7�12 academic program grounded in the values and missions of Tree Street Youth and Lewiston Public Schools. Students and staff co-create a dynamic learning environment that meets high expectations within a culture of mutual respect, honoring each person's identity, life experiences, and aspirations.

Next STEP High School Humanities Teachers join a highly collaborative, innovative, and passionate teaching team focused on designing and delivering curriculum with students. Essential Requirement: Availability The employee must be available and able to work five (5) days per week, Monday through Friday, according to the Lewiston Public Schools schedule.

This is an essential function of the position, not a preference. Next STEP depends on a close-knit team and on trusting relationships with students. Regular, predictable attendance is therefore required, along with availability to students and families outside the instructional day as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned. Teaching and curriculum Teach standards-based humanities curriculum (English and social studies), and other subjects as needed, to high school students. Create projects that involve real-world problem solving, engage community partners, and inspire students to take ownership of their learning.

Plan a program of study that meets students' individual needs, interests, and abilities. Set clear objectives for every lesson, unit, and project, communicate them to students, and guide learning toward curriculum goals. Meet and instruct assigned classes at the locations and times designed by the team. Evaluate students' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.

Classroom culture Create a classroom that supports learning and honors students' identities, lived experiences, and social-emotional needs. Foster a restorative classroom climate, upholding high standards for behavior while giving students opportunities to repair harm when it occurs. Teamwork and relationships Collaborate on a team that includes teachers, ed techs, community-based organization (CBO) partners, and students.

Build caring relationships with students and families. Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervises the classroom, students, and volunteers, with assistance, advice, and support from administration.

Qualifications

Education

and certification Bachelor's degree Maine teaching certificate with the appropriate endorsement, such as English Language Arts (7�12) or Social Studies (7�12), [or eligibility for a conditional certificate] Candidates who qualify will be supported in earning full certification over three years Completed criminal history record check (fingerprinting), as required by Maine law Available and able to work 5 days per week per the Lewiston Public Schools schedule Language skills Read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.

Write reports, correspondence, and curriculum materials. Present information effectively and respond to questions from students, families, colleagues, community partners, and the public. Mathematical skills Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Interpret assessment data to plan instruction.

Reasoning ability Solve practical problems and handle a variety of concrete variables where only limited standardization exists. Interpret instructions given in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Other skills and abilities Apply current research and theory, including project-based and restorative practices, to the instructional program.

Plan and teach lessons based on district and school objectives and students' needs and abilities. Build and maintain effective relationships with students, colleagues, and parents. Communicate skillfully, both orally and in writing. Perform duties in line with all district requirements and School Committee policies.

Compensation

and Benefits The salary range for this position is $45,518.26 to $85,857.57 annually, with placement on the teacher salary schedule based on education and experience.
