National Peening is currently seeking a Lead Quality Inspector to join our Team in Wilmington, NC.

What You Will Do

The Shot Peening Lead Inspector is responsible for leading and performing inspection activities to ensure all shot peening processes and products comply with customer specifications, engineering standards, and regulatory requirements. This role serves as the primary technical resource on the shop floor for inspection-related matters.

General Perform and oversee inspection activities including: Almen strip testing and intensity verification Coverage verification Shot peening process validation Approve or reject products based on applicable specifications Monitor process parameters, including media condition and equipment settings Maintain accurate inspection records and ensure full traceability Train and support inspectors and operators on requirements and procedures Identify, document, and escalate non-conformances Assist with root cause analysis and corrective actions Support internal, customer, and Nadcap audits What We Want From You High School diploma or equivalent is required 3-7 years experience in manufacturing environment, surface treatment/ shot peening experience preferred 2+ years management/supervisor experience in quality position preferred Skills & Competencies Strong technical knowledge of shot peening processes Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications Attention to detail and high level of accuracy Strong communication and training skills Problem-solving and decision-making ability Certifications (Preferred) Almen strip certification Working knowledge of SAE, AMS, and customer specifications Familiarity with Nadcap and AS9100 standards Work Environment Shop floor environment with exposure to machinery and production conditions, some office work Lifting, Bending, standing The Benefits of Joining Our Team Because we seek to hire the best people, we work hard to provide benefits that make their lives better, so we offer a comprehensive benefit program, which features: Health coverage for Medical, Dental and Vision plans 401(k) plan in with a generous company match and profit sharing Financial protection through short term and long term disability, life insurance up to $50k of an employee’s base salary, and accidental death & dismemberment insurance plans, at 100% company cost Tax advantages through flexible spending accounts that allow you to pay for specific health-care and dependent care expenses with pre-tax dollars Generous paid time off program in which the benefits increase along with your tenure with the company, as well as paid sick time 100% company paid Employee Assistance Program (EAP), which covers family and marriage counseling, addiction counseling, will prep and financial support.
