POSITION SUMMARY

The Account Manager serves as the strategic technology advisor for an assigned portfolio of 5 Factor Technology clients. This individual is accountable for aligning each client’s technology with their business goals through proactive planning, regular technology reviews, multi-year IT roadmaps, and technology budgets.

The ideal candidate combines strong business acumen with a working knowledge of IT, communicates fluently with executives and non-technical decision makers, and is passionate about helping clients make better technology decisions that drive measurable business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Client Partnership
  • Serve as the primary strategic point of contact for client decision makers, developing a deep understanding of each client’s business, goals, challenges, and market position, and translating technology into business outcomes.
  • Regular Technology Reviews
  • Plan and lead recurring technology business reviews with client leadership, presenting proactive metrics, support trends, standards alignment status, and roadmap progress, and tracking all action items to completion.
  • IT Roadmap Development
  • Build and maintain a 1-3 year technology roadmap for every assigned client, prioritized by business impact, covering lifecycle replacements, security and risk remediation, and capabilities that support the client’s growth plans.
  • Budget & Financial Stewardship
  • Develop annual technology budgets and multi-year capital plans for each client, forecasting hardware, software, and service lifecycle costs so clients understand what they are paying for and why.
  • Risk & Standards Alignment
  • Identify technology and security risks, rank them by business impact, and ensure client leadership makes conscious, documented decisions about which risks to fix, accept, or insure.
  • Account Growth & Retention
  • Own retention and healthy account growth by identifying opportunities where technology investments advance client goals and developing project and service recommendations with clear business justification.
  • Client Education
  • Proactively educate clients on industry trends, emerging technologies, and compliance requirements before the need arises, in clear, non-technical language.
  • Vendor & Contract Management
  • Advise clients on vendor contracts, license renewals, and purchasing decisions with vendor-neutral guidance.
  • Documentation & Account Planning
  • Maintain complete, current account documentation, including client profiles, decisions, action items, and risk registers.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a client-facing strategic IT role, such as vCIO, IT Director, Technical Account Manager, or senior technology consultant, with MSP industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience developing IT strategies, roadmaps, and budgets for small to mid-sized businesses, and presenting them to executives, owners, and boards.
  • Strong business acumen, including the ability to connect technology decisions to productivity, risk, and financial outcomes.
  • Working knowledge of IT infrastructure, cloud platforms, cybersecurity, and compliance frameworks relevant to SMB clients.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts in business terms.
  • Strong organizational skills and a process-driven, proactive mindset.
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience serving clients in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) vertical is preferred. What Success Looks Like Every assigned client has a current, documented technology roadmap and budget. Regular technology reviews are completed on schedule with client decision-makers in attendance. Client retention and account growth targets are consistently met or exceeded. Clients regard the Account Manager as a trusted advisor who puts their success first. Agreed action items and decisions are documented and completed on time. Clients make fewer reactive, unplanned technology purchases and more informed, strategic ones. 5 Factor Technology provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
