Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced, dependable, and hands-on Site Manager to oversee janitorial operations at Sioux Falls Regional Airport (FSD). The Site Manager is responsible for managing daily cleaning operations, leading a large workforce, coordinating staffing and schedules, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring all services are completed safely and in accordance with company policies, client expectations, and contractual requirements.

This position requires a strong leader who can effectively manage employees, oversee multiple shifts, resolve operational challenges, communicate with airport representatives, and maintain consistent service quality in a fast-paced airport environment. Because airport operations run 24/7, the Site Manager must be flexible and available to adjust their work schedule based on operational needs, including staffing shortages, client requests, inspections, emergencies, and other business priorities.

The manager must be prepared to support operations across different shifts to ensure continuity of service and effective team performance.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee daily janitorial operations to ensure all assigned airport areas meet company, client, and contractual cleaning standards. Supervise, lead, and develop the janitorial workforce across assigned shifts. Coordinate employee schedules, staffing levels, work assignments, cleaning routes, and area coverage. Monitor employee attendance, punctuality, productivity, and performance, addressing call-outs, no-shows, and staffing shortages as needed.

Adjust work schedules and provide operational support across different shifts based on business needs. Conduct routine inspections, walkthroughs, and quality audits to ensure all cleaning tasks meet established standards. Identify service deficiencies, implement corrective actions, and follow up to ensure issues are resolved promptly.

Provide employee coaching, training, feedback, and performance evaluations. Assist with employee onboarding, training, scheduling, disciplinary actions, and performance management. Ensure employees follow company policies, cleaning procedures, airport regulations, and established safety requirements. Serve as the primary point of contact for airport representatives and client management regarding janitorial operations.

Respond promptly and professionally to client concerns, service requests, inspections, and operational issues. Prepare and maintain daily operational reports, staffing reports, inspection records, incident reports, and other required documentation. Monitor cleaning supplies, inventory, and equipment to ensure adequate resources are available and properly maintained.

Enforce OSHA safety requirements, proper personal protective equipment (PPE) use, and company safety policies. Ensure all employees maintain proper uniforms, airport identification, and professional conduct while on duty. Address employee concerns, equipment failures, staffing challenges, and other operational issues promptly.

Communicate operational updates, staffing concerns, quality issues, and client feedback to upper management. Ensure all janitorial services meet contractual obligations, service-level agreements, and company performance standards. Promote a professional, accountable, safe, and team-oriented work environment. Perform other management duties as assigned to support airport operations.

Qualifications

3–5+ years of experience in janitorial, custodial, commercial cleaning, or facilities operations. Minimum of 2 years of supervisory, operations management, or Site Manager experience. Experience managing teams in a janitorial or facilities services environment. Previous experience overseeing overnight, third-shift, or multi-shift operations preferred.

Proven ability to manage staffing, scheduling, attendance, employee assignments, and performance. Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, motivate, and hold employees accountable. Experience handling staffing shortages, call-outs, no-shows, and operational challenges. Excellent organizational, communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. Ability to communicate professionally with employees, upper management, and client representatives. Dependable, flexible, professional, and detail-oriented. High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or certifications in facilities management, business, or a related field preferred.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, email, and basic computer applications. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred. Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and additional hours as operational needs require. Must successfully complete all required pre-employment background checks, drug screening, and airport security clearance.

Knowledge & Technical Skills Knowledge of commercial janitorial procedures, including floor care, restroom sanitation, carpet cleaning, and high-touch surface cleaning. Familiarity with commercial cleaning equipment, including auto scrubbers, buffers, extractors, vacuums, and pressure washers. Understanding of OSHA requirements, PPE standards, and workplace safety procedures.

Ability to conduct quality inspections, identify deficiencies, and implement corrective actions. Ability to prepare operational reports, staffing records, incident reports, and employee documentation. Experience monitoring inventory, equipment maintenance, and supply requirements. Strong customer service and conflict-resolution skills.

Ability to manage multiple shifts and maintain consistent service delivery across a 24/7 operation. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds when necessary. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions. Ability to walk throughout airport facilities to inspect work areas and monitor operations.

Must be flexible and available to work varying shifts, weekends, holidays, and additional hours as required by operational needs.
