Job description
Position Title: Hearing Support Teacher Assistant Position -Traveling Position Summary/Goal: The Hearing Support Teacher Assistant will reinforce the classroom teacher's instruction, guide practice on specific skills, and provide tutorial assistance when needed. Term of Employment: 9 month position Reporting Relationship: Reports to building principal, classroom teacher, and Special Education Supervisor Location(s): TBD Salary: LCL 1968 contract Certification: Minimum Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) rating 3.
5 or higher in the assigned setting.
Education
Highly Qualified Paraprofessional Status (Certificate) approved by the Erie School District or the State of Pennsylvania; Possess an associate degree or higher; 2 years of postsecondary study (48+ credits required) Qualifications: Demonstrated proficiency to interpret/transliterate (expressive voice) at a normal conversational rate, American Sign Language and Conceptually Accurate Signed English.
Certified in First Aid & CPR. Handle with Care Certification. Demonstrate ability to collaborate with educators and students. Working knowledge of Erie School District policies, procedures, and organizational structure. Must hold or obtain FBI, State Police, and Child Abuse clearances. Special Requirements: Physical requirements are the same as those encountered in the course of a typical professional school environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist the teacher with various clerical and monitorial duties as assigned. Typical activities may include reproduction of instructional materials, helping students with lessons and correcting papers. Provide expressive and form of manually coded English, and/or interpreting for hearing-impaired students when necessary and when interpreting is not needed.
Participate in educational team meetings, including the development and review of progress on the Individual Education Plan, providing insight on the success of communication strategies. Provide interpreting for extracurricular activities and parent meetings when necessary. Assist in providing orientations to deafness to hearing students and staff.
Perform other duties as assigned by building principals, classroom teacher and Special Education Supervisor. Evaluation: Conducted by building principal
