About the Location Located on Ventura Boulevard in the heart of Encino, The Vered offers a modern and welcoming senior living environment in one of the San Fernando Valley’s most desirable neighborhoods. Conveniently located near Sherman Oaks and major freeways, the community is thoughtfully designed to provide residents with comfort, connection, and an elevated living experience.
Position Summary
The Bistro Associate creates a welcoming and enjoyable experience for residents and guests by providing friendly, attentive service and preparing and serving beverages and light food items. This position is responsible for taking orders, making menu recommendations, operating the point-of-sale system, maintaining a clean and inviting bistro environment, and ensuring each interaction reflects a high standard of hospitality.
The ideal candidate is personable, attentive, organized, and enjoys building relationships with residents while providing warm and efficient service. Essential Job Duties Warmly greet residents and guests and provide attentive, personalized service. Take food and beverage orders accurately and assist residents and guests with menu selections and recommendations.
Prepare coffee, specialty beverages, and other menu items according to established recipes and presentation standards. Serve beverages and prepared food items in a timely and professional manner. Maintain knowledge of bistro offerings, ingredients, daily specials, and available menu items. Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system accurately, including processing transactions and recording applicable meal charges.
Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting bistro and dining area, including cleaning tables, counters, equipment, utensils, and service areas. Follow established food safety, sanitation, and quality standards when preparing, handling, and serving food and beverages. Monitor bistro supplies and inventory and communicate replenishment or ordering needs to dining leadership.
Assist with food and beverage inventories as requested. Communicate resident preferences, dietary requests, and service needs with culinary and dining team members. Coordinate with culinary and dining leadership regarding food quality, service, equipment, or operational concerns. Report damaged or malfunctioning equipment promptly to the appropriate supervisor.
Provide table and beverage service in other dining areas as needed. Support cost-control efforts by minimizing waste and properly handling food, beverages, and supplies. Participate in required meetings, training, and educational sessions. Work collaboratively with culinary and dining team members to provide a consistent and exceptional resident experience.
Perform other duties as assigned to support Dining Services and the overall operation of the community.
Requirements
Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience in a café, bistro, coffee shop, restaurant, senior living, hotel, or hospitality environment preferred. Food Handler certification or other state-required food safety certification, as applicable. Friendly, professional, and hospitality-focused approach to serving residents and guests.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to learn and explain menu offerings, ingredients, and beverage selections. Basic math and computer skills with the ability to accurately operate a POS system. Strong organization and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks during busy service periods.
Attention to detail and ability to follow established recipes, preparation procedures, and service standards. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a culinary and dining team. Dependable, professional, and attentive to resident needs. Must maintain a flexible schedule based on community needs, including availability to work weekends and holidays as required.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday. Ability to frequently bend, reach, stoop, twist, push, and pull while performing bistro and service responsibilities. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and use appropriate assistance for heavier items.
Ability to safely handle food, beverages, dishes, glassware, utensils, and bistro equipment. Ability to work safely around hot beverages, food preparation equipment, cleaning products, and other conditions commonly associated with a bistro or dining environment. Ability to read menus, recipes, labels, resident orders, and other information necessary to perform assigned duties.
Ability to hear and communicate effectively with residents, guests, and team members in an active dining environment. Must follow established food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
