Job description

At Simplyhealth, we're on a mission to improve access to healthcare for all in the UK. As a Junior Site Reliability Engineer, you'll join a brand-new Site Reliability Engineering function and have the unique opportunity to help shape how reliability is built into our technology platforms from the ground up. This is a learning-focused role designed for someone with a solid technical foundation and a genuine curiosity about how technology works.

We're not looking for someone who is already an experienced SRE. Instead, we're looking for someone with the aptitude, enthusiasm and problem-solving mindset to become one. You'll be working on Denplan's subscription platform, a business-critical system that collects payments for patients and dental practices across the UK.

From your first few weeks, you'll be contributing to real engineering work, helping build monitoring and dashboards, automating repetitive tasks, supporting incident investigations and improving system reliability alongside experienced engineers. Based in Andover, Hampshire, we operate a smart working approach. Whilst flexible remote working is available, our technology teams come together at least once per week to collaborate, learn from one another and solve problems as a team.

You'll benefit from a structured development plan, mentoring from experienced engineers, protected learning time and support towards industry-recognised certifications, including Microsoft Azure qualifications.

Key responsibilities include

-Building and maintaining monitoring, dashboards and alerts across services and platforms. -Writing SQL queries and scripts to measure and report on service reliability. -Supporting observability initiatives through logs, metrics and tracing. -Automating repetitive operational tasks using scripting, pipelines and infrastructure-as-code approaches.

-Writing and maintaining clear operational documentation and runbooks. -Supporting performance, scalability and disaster recovery testing activities. -Participating in incident response and post-incident reviews under guidance from experienced engineers. -Working closely with Product Engineering, Platform Engineering and Quality Engineering teams.

-Taking ownership of your own professional development and technical learning.

We're looking for someone who enjoys learning, building and troubleshooting technology. You might be a graduate, someone who has completed an apprenticeship or bootcamp, or somebody who has developed technical skills through self-learning and personal projects. What's most important is your curiosity, determination and desire to build a career in Site Reliability Engineering.

To be successful in this role, you'll have: -A solid technical foundation gained through education, work experience or personal projects. -Some programming or scripting experience, such as Python, Power. Shell, Bash or C#. -A basic understanding of web applications, APIs, databases and SQL. -Confidence working with version control tools such as Git.

-Familiarity with command-line environments, ideally Linux. -Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. -Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create documentation. -A methodical and curious approach to understanding why things do or don't work. -A willingness to ask questions, learn from others and continuously develop your skills.

It would be beneficial, but not essential, if you also have: -Exposure to cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure. -Awareness of Docker, Kubernetes or container technologies. -An understanding of CI/CD concepts and deployment pipelines. -Experience with monitoring tools such as Azure Monitor, Grafana or Prometheus. -Personal projects, home labs or open-source contributions that demonstrate your interest in technology.

We're committed to creating a recruitment experience that is fair, inclusive and accessible for everyone. We want every candidate to have the opportunity to demonstrate their potential, technical aptitude and passion for technology. Your recruitment journey will include: -Application -Introductory conversation with our Talent Acquisition Team -Interview with the Hiring Manager and engineering stakeholders -Technical assessment -Final interview -Offer If you require any adjustments during the recruitment process, we'll be happy to support you.

We're committed to building an inclusive workplace where everyone can learn, grow and make a meaningful contribution as we continue to transform healthcare through technology
