Veterinary Laboratory Technician Location: Waukesha, WI Schedule: Full Time | 2nd Shift | 4 Ten Hour OR 5 Eight Hour Shifts Per Week | Every Other Weekend Compensation: $22/hr+, Dependent On Experience Why Join WVRC Waukesha? From challenging emergency cases to opportunities to participate in clinical research, you'll have the resources and support to grow your career while making a meaningful impact on the lives of pets, their families, and the veterinary community every day The Laboratory Technician is responsible for supporting veterinarians in diagnostic processes by performing in-house laboratory tests and procedures essential for diagnosing and treating animals.
The technician must demonstrate proficiency with laboratory equipment, a solid understanding of veterinary laboratory protocols, and strong attention to detail to ensure accurate and timely test results. In Your Day to Day, You Will Prepare and process biological samples, including blood, urine, feces, and tissue, following veterinary and laboratory protocols and ensuring accurate labeling and tracking.
Perform in-house diagnostic testing, including complete blood counts, blood chemistry panels, urinalysis, fecal analysis and parasite identification, cytology, and SNAP and ELISA testing. Prepare and ship samples for outside laboratory testing. Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment, including hematology and chemistry analyzers, microscopes, and centrifuges; troubleshoot basic issues and report malfunctions to management.
Follow quality control procedures to ensure accurate, reliable test results. Maintain a clean, organized laboratory and follow safety, biohazard, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory guidelines. Communicate test results and diagnostic input to veterinarians and veterinary technicians, and accurately document findings in patient records using veterinary management software.
Monitor laboratory supplies and reorder as needed. What You Bring Three years of experience in a veterinary clinic, hospital, or laboratory setting. Familiarity with veterinary laboratory equipment and diagnostic testing. An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field preferred; current Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) licensure desired.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to handle biological samples safely. Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach to teamwork. Perks & Benefits: Medical
