JOB SUMMARY
The Visitor Services Supervisor (Part-Time) oversees New York Historical’s admissions desk, coat check, switchboard, and call center. This position reports to the Director of Visitor Services and directly oversees 15-20 visitor services associates, carrying out supervisory responsibilities.
Responsibilities include
training and evaluating employee performance; planning, scheduling, and overseeing regular department work in consultation with the department director; addressing visitor complaints and resolving problems. The Visitor Services Supervisor shifts are Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays with a maximum of 24 hours per week. Only candidates who can commit to work Friday-Sunday will be considered.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES Handle cash and accurately account for all revenue on a daily/weekly/monthly basis, including well-organized and prompt processing of all invoices and daily deposit reports; Train associates in the areas of general procedures, register operations, current public programs, company policy, emergency procedures, and good customer service; Ensure that cash register operations, cash handling, theft prevention, and inventory processes are carried out properly; Develop and maintain good working relationships with all visitor services associates while setting and maintaining the necessary standards for a professional customer service team.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of one to two years of museum/arts supervisory experience or related retail experience; Proficiency with Excel and the entire Microsoft Office suite; Experience with retail and database software; familiarity with Tessitura a plus; Proven record of accuracy and attention to detail, have exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and be comfortable, positive and professional interacting with the public and coworkers; Effective presentation and training skills, with large or small groups.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee with or without accommodation, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee will spend many hours standing and some hours sitting and using a computer. They will also bend, stoop, and open cabinets, and frequently move around the building.
The employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
COMPENSATION
