Job description

Job Title: Infrastructure System Engineer Location: Belgium (Hybrid) Employment Type: Full-Time / Permanent Job Summary: Our client is are seeking a skilled and proactive Infrastructure System Engineer to join their IT team in Belgium. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting their on-premise and cloud-based IT infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, scalability, security, and reliability.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in systems engineering, a proactive problem-solving mindset, and experience working in enterprise or critical infrastructure environments.

Key Responsibilities

Design, configure, and maintain enterprise infrastructure systems, including servers, storage, virtualization, and backup systems. Manage and monitor on-premise and cloud environments (e.g., Microsoft Azure, AWS, or GCP). Ensure system availability, performance, and security through regular health checks, updates, and patch management.

Troubleshoot and resolve system incidents, performance issues, and outages in a timely manner. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., network, DevOps, and security) on projects and incident resolution. Automate repetitive tasks and improve infrastructure efficiency through scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash).

Support disaster recovery and business continuity strategies. Maintain technical documentation, system inventories, and configuration records. Participate in on-call rotation and provide out-of-hours support when needed.

Requirements

Must-Have: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience). 3+ years of experience as a Systems Engineer or Infrastructure Engineer. Strong knowledge of Windows and/or Linux server environments. Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere, Hyper-V).

Familiarity with cloud services (Azure, AWS, or GCP). Proficient in infrastructure scripting or automation. Knowledge of IT security best practices and compliance. Good written and spoken English (Dutch and/or French are a plus, depending on region). Nice-to-Have: Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or Ansible.

Familiarity with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes). Certification(s): Microsoft (AZ-104, AZ-305), VMware (VCP), Linux (RHCE), or relevant cloud/infrastructure certifications.
