Foss Recycling Inc. is seeking an experienced Industrial Electrician to support the electrical systems and equipment at our recycling facilities. This position will be based in La Grange, NC and will also provide support to other Foss Recycling locations, 24 including Raleigh, NC, as needed. The Industrial Electrician will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial electrical systems and equipment.

The ideal candidate has strong experience with 480V three-phase systems, motor controls, PLCs, electrical troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance in an industrial or manufacturing environment. This is a hands-on position for an electrician who can safely diagnose electrical problems, minimize equipment downtime, and help keep our facilities operating efficiently.

Essential Responsibilities Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial electrical systems and equipment. Diagnose electrical problems involving 480V three-phase power, motors, motor controls, control circuits, and related equipment. Perform preventive and corrective electrical maintenance on plant and production equipment.

Troubleshoot electrical breakdowns and respond to equipment-related service calls. Install and repair electrical panels, wiring, controls, conduit, and related components. Troubleshoot and work with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and automated equipment. Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.

Use multimeters, ohmmeters, and other electrical testing equipment to diagnose electrical issues. Perform low-voltage and control wiring as required. Assist with electrical upgrades, equipment installations, renovations, and facility improvement projects. Ensure electrical work is completed in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable safety requirements.

Maintain accurate documentation of repairs, installations, inspections, and changes to electrical systems. Coordinate with maintenance, operations, contractors, and other team members when completing electrical projects. Follow all company safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment. Travel to other Foss Recycling facilities as needed to perform electrical maintenance, repairs, and installations.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain, troubleshoot, and perform routine testing on industrial power systems (480V to 4160V+), switchgear, transformers, motor control centers (MCCs), and high-horsepower shredder motor drives. Control Systems & PLC Diagnostics: Read ladder logic, troubleshoot PLC inputs/outputs, resolve field device faults (sensors, limit switches, encoders), and parameterize Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and soft starters.

Electrical Maintenance & Repair: Install, repair, and maintain conduit, heavy-gauge wiring, junction boxes, magnetic separation systems, eddy current separators, and overhead crane electrical control panels. Troubleshooting & Testing: Use advanced multimeters, megohmmeters (meggers), thermal cameras, and power quality analyzers to diagnose electrical faults rapidly and prevent catastrophic failure.

Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Enforce and adhere to NFPA 70E (Arc Flash protection), OSHA, and strict Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) standards across all shredder plant operations. Mechanical Collaboration: Perform basic mechanical disconnects/connects and assist millwrights during major equipment rebuilds or electrical motor changeouts.

Qualifications

& Requirements Experience: 3+ years as an Industrial Electrician or Electrical Technician in heavy industry (scrap metal recycling, mining, aggregate, steel mills, paper mills, or heavy manufacturing). Technical Expertise: Demonstrated mastery of 480V 3-phase systems, motor controls, VFDs, and industrial power distribution.

Strong working knowledge of PLC hardware/diagnostics (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar) and industrial instrumentation. Ability to read and interpret complex single-line electrical schematics, ladder logic, and blue prints. Certifications: Journeyman Electrician license, NFPA 70E training, or equivalent trade school diploma highly preferred.

Physical Requirements: Ability to safely perform electrical tasks in outdoor, high-exposure recycling yard conditions, work at elevated heights, and wear required PPE (including Arc Flash suits when required).

Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including 480V three-phase power and motor controls. Experience troubleshooting electrical systems and production or industrial equipment. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical diagrams. Experience with PLC troubleshooting is strongly preferred.

Knowledge of low-voltage and high-voltage electrical systems. Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and electrical safety practices. Ability to safely use electrical testing equipment, hand tools, and power tools. Experience working in industrial, manufacturing, recycling, construction, or other heavy-equipment environments is preferred.

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and prioritize repairs in a fast-paced operating environment. Valid driver's license required. Ability and willingness to travel between Foss Recycling locations as needed. Work Environment This position works primarily in an industrial recycling environment and may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions, noise, dust, heavy equipment, and active machinery.
