Job description

Head of Liability Netherlands Amstelveen Division: Liability Reports To: Underwriting Director Netherlands

  1. Purpose Develop the strategy for the assigned class and/or customer segment and ensure planning, management, execution and optimization of the activities within the assigned class, in line with authority letter(s), underwriting guidelines, MSIG acceptance policy and MSIG reinsurance policy, in order to realise the financial and commercial targets of the assigned class.
  2. Dimensions Responsible for yearly premium income of € 100 million. Responsibility for the Liability underwriting team consisting of 16 persons. Serves both binder business and bourse business. Serves both local and Multinational business. Serves both Middle Market and Major clients. Serves customers in a broad range of industries.
  3. Key Result Areas . Class strategy Develop, implement and monitor the strategy and planning for the assigned class, in line with MSIG policy and class policies, in order to give direction to the realisation of the objectives of the assigned class. Product development and market developments Ensure the translation of developments within the class, customer segment and general insurance market and contribute to the development of products, corresponding policy conditions and acceptance policy, in order to contribute to a profitable portfolio in the own class. Portfolio management and acquisition Ensure an optimal return on the (assigned) class portfolio by preparing commercial offers in response to requests, as well as advise end customers and brokers during the acquisition process, in order to retain and win clients and requests and contribute to the commercial objectives of the class. Underwriting Ensure the analysis, assessment and pricing of the risks offered, based on the authority letter(s), underwriting guidelines, policy conditions and other relevant criteria, in order to be able to make a sound decision regarding risk acceptance and pricing. Re-underwriting Ensure the assessment of the risks of continuing a policy after a claim has been made, based on the authority letter(s), underwriting guidelines, policy conditions and other relevant criteria, in order to be able to make a sound decision regarding the need to adjust premiums and policy conditions. Relationship management Develop, maintain and/or improve sustainable relations with customers, brokers, optional reinsurers and other in- and external stakeholders, in order to contribute to the retention and strengthening of the market position of the class. Knowledge development Ensure knowledge building and sharing regarding developments in the assigned class and/or customer segment, general insurance market, insurance technique and relevant laws and regulations, in order to further increase the quality, effectiveness and innovation of underwriting in the class.
  4. The Operating Environment and Context of the Job Responsible for a large book of business, ensuring that all underwriting processes are embedded, optimized and monitored. Key areas of work include Strategy, Business Planning, Class Strategies and Reviews, Technical Pricing, UW Guidelines, Line Guides, Product development, UW Authorities, Portfolio management & acquisition, Underwriting & Re-underwriting, Relationship management, Development of knowledge, Personal & organization and Management Information.
  5. Key Competencies: Master/Academic degree Minimum years of experience > 10 years Language skills : Dutch & English
