We are hiring for a Lead Software Engineer to join our Online Banking Squad. This role will give you the opportunity to stay close to the code while having a bigger influence on engineering direction. You will work across React, Java Spring Boot, REST APIs & microservices , helping shape end-to-end solutions for our Australian & New Zealand digital banking platforms Top Role Accountabilities & Responsibilities: Lead technical delivery across our online banking applications, APIs & microservices Design, development, testing, debugging & remediation Translate architecture & business requirements into practical, maintainable engineering solutions Provide technical direction, conduct design & code reviews, & coach engineers across the squad Champion clean code, automated testing, CI/CD & secure engineering practices Work with Azure DevOps pipelines & support deployment & release readiness Design for performance, scalability, security, resilience, accessibility & observability Identify technical debt, dependencies & opportunities to improve platform reliability Support production services, including incident investigation, root cause analysis & resolution of priority issues Participate in an on-call arrangement when required for priority incidents To be successful, you will have: You’re an experienced engineer who can move comfortably between writing code, solving complex technical problems & bringing other engineers along with you. 10+ years’ software engineering experience, with 2+ years at Senior/Lead level Strong commercial experience with React & Java Spring Boot Experience with REST APIs, microservices, Kafka & event-driven architecture Strong CI/CD, Azure DevOps & cloud deployment experience Knowledge of secure coding, SAST, vulnerability & dependency management Experience supporting business-critical applications in production Experience using modern AI coding tools, such as GitHub Copilot or equivalent, for development, testing, debugging, refactoring & documentation Understanding of modern AI engineering concepts, including LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, agentic workflows, evaluation & responsible AI The ability to coach engineers & lead technical delivery without formal people-management responsibility What we’re proud to offer you: Hybrid working: A mix of work in our newly refurbished CBD office & at home Wellbeing leave: Extra days to support your health & work-life balance Education Assistance Program t o support your growth Parental leave: Up to 14 weeks’ paid leave to support you & your family Additional leave options : Earn an extra week of annual leave & purchase up to two more Insurance cover: Employer-funded Death, TPD & Income Protection Workplace giving: Matched donations through our community giving program Other extras: Annual wardrobe or equipment allowance, flu shot, gym passport discount, health insurance discounts & more Location & Working Arrangements: This role must be based in Sydney & offers a flexible hybrid working model with both in office & at home working.
