Security Officer

Location: Columbia, MO 65201 Employment Type: Part-Time Pay: $18.00 per hour Schedule: Saturday

• Sunday | 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM (24 hours per week) Position Overview Citadel Security USA is seeking a responsible and observant Unarmed Security Officer to provide weekend security coverage at an assigned location in Columbia, Missouri. This role is ideal for someone who can balance a visible security presence with courteous public interaction. Daily responsibilities include monitoring activity, conducting foot patrols, helping manage access, and addressing concerns before they escalate. The position does not involve carrying a firearm. Success in this role depends on sound judgment, consistent attention, respectful communication, and the ability to follow established procedures while helping maintain a safe environment for visitors and employees.

What You Will Do

Stay attentive in assigned areas and help discourage unauthorized activity through regular observation and visible patrols. Perform Foot Inspections: Walk designated indoor and outdoor areas, checking for safety hazards, signs of intrusion, damage, or unusual activity. Observe Cameras and Alarms: Monitor available CCTV systems, alarm notifications, and access-control equipment, reporting concerns according to established procedures.

Assist With Entry Procedures: Verify identification when required, issue visitor badges, and maintain accurate entry and exit records. Provide Courteous Assistance: Help visitors and employees with routine questions while maintaining professional boundaries and security awareness. Address Rule Violations: Explain applicable rules calmly, respond professionally to disruptive behavior, and use de-escalation techniques when appropriate.

Respond to Incidents: Assess disturbances, suspicious activity, and other reported concerns, then take appropriate action within the limits of your training and authority. Follow Emergency Protocols: Notify supervisors and contact emergency services when needed during medical incidents, alarms, evacuations, or other urgent situations.

Check Important Access Points: Include stairways, elevators, emergency exits, and other assigned areas in routine observations and patrols. Prepare Daily and Incident Reports: Document patrol findings, unusual behavior, safety concerns, and incidents clearly and accurately using required reporting procedures. Communicate Important Updates: Relay relevant information to supervisors and responding personnel so concerns receive timely attention.

Apply Site Rules Consistently: Follow post orders and company procedures while treating all individuals fairly and respectfully. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. At least 1–2 years of professional security experience . Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to remain alert and recognize potential safety or security concerns.

Ability to stay calm and exercise sound judgment in challenging situations. Ability to prepare accurate written reports and maintain records. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift. Ability to patrol both indoor and outdoor areas, including stairways and emergency exits. Ability to respond promptly to emergencies and follow established instructions.

Sufficient visual and auditory awareness to observe surroundings and identify unusual activity. Availability to work the scheduled Saturday and Sunday shift.

Preferred Qualifications

Two or more years of experience in security, law enforcement, or military service. Previous experience in access control, patrols, visitor assistance, or incident response. Familiarity with CCTV monitoring, alarm systems, visitor logs, or digital reporting tools. Experience communicating with the public and resolving concerns professionally.
