Job description

Brandon and Clark Inc. Manual Machinist Lubbock, TX | Full-Time | Motors Position Overview The Manual Machinist sets up, operates, and maintains a variety of manual machine tools to manufacture precision components from metal and other materials. The role diagnoses issues, delivers effective solutions, and upholds quality and safety standards across every task.

Key Responsibilities

Machining Operations Operate a variety of machine tools — lathes, mills, grinders, and drill presses — adjusting settings and monitoring machine behavior to maintain consistency and efficiency across production runs. Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, speeds, and feeds based on job specifications and material type, completing precise setups for optimal performance and dimensional accuracy.

Standardize tooling layouts for quicker access and use blocks or spacers to minimize zeroing. Perform preventive maintenance such as cleaning, lubrication, and minor adjustments; report machine malfunctions or wear to the supervisor to maintain operational readiness and prolong equipment life. Safely operate forklifts, hoists, lifts, and similar equipment in accordance with company standards, ensuring loads are secured and under full control.

Maintain a clean, organized work area with tools, fixtures, and materials stored properly. Blueprint & Technical Interpretation Read and interpret drawings, schematics, and written instructions, translating design requirements into precise machining actions. Review and verify job travelers, routers, and setup sheets for compliance with customer specifications and internal standards.

Quality Assurance & Inspection Use precision measuring instruments — calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, and dial indicators — to verify part dimensions and tolerances against drawings and inspection criteria. Select and apply the appropriate diagnostic tools to troubleshoot issues and confirm quality. Follow department SOPs, apply SDS guidance for chemicals and lubricants, and work in accordance with EASA standards.

Documentation & Reporting Complete production and inspection documentation accurately, maintaining job records and noting deviations, corrective actions, or improvements for traceability and quality control. Prepare job reports, document work performed, and communicate findings to the supervisor or customer. Clock in and out of jobs accurately in MotorBase and SpringPoint to ensure correct billing; review job assignments, transfer between jobs, complete daily reports, and attach photos and supporting documentation.

Use SpringPoint Academy coursework to maintain and advance skills. Continuous Improvement Observe machining operations to identify opportunities for efficiency gains, waste reduction, or quality improvement, and work with supervisors to implement approved changes. Refine setups and processes by adjusting tooling, speeds, and feeds to achieve higher quality and lower cycle times.
