UX Engineer – Level II
Job description
Job Description The UX Engineer – Level II (UI/UX Designer Specialist II) will collaborate with business stakeholders, designers, developers, and technical teams to understand business goals and deliver user-centered digital solutions supporting New York State strategic initiatives. The consultant will design, develop, and implement client-facing and internal applications; conduct user research and usability testing; create UX deliverables; and work closely with developers to translate designs into functional digital experiences across web, iOS, and Android platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with stakeholders and team members to understand business goals and solve complex business problems. Design, develop, and implement client-facing and internal applications. Create solutions that align enterprise architecture and business capabilities with New York State requirements. Address application defects and enhancements and participate in post-implementation incident resolution.
Plan and conduct user research, including surveys, interviews, and focus groups. Present research findings and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders. Plan and facilitate design-thinking workshops, journey mapping, and user-needs modeling. Develop UX deliverables, including user models, scenarios, sketches, user stories, user flows, interactive prototypes, wireframes, storyboards, and sitemaps.
Conduct usability testing, analyze user feedback, and continuously improve user experiences. Collaborate with developers to implement designs, develop content, and build coded prototypes. Collect quantitative and qualitative UX metrics to validate usability. Design experiences for web, iOS, and Android devices.
Requirements
Requirements Mandatory Qualifications UX experience and leadership: More than 7 years of experience working on complex projects, including at least 2 years in a leadership role as a UX Engineer. Full-lifecycle UI/UX engineering: At least 7 years of experience delivering UX artifacts throughout the design lifecycle, including wireframes, mockups, journey maps, prototypes, storyboards, and user surveys.
Integrated Eligibility System (IES): 1–2 years of experience working on an Integrated Eligibility System program, including various workstreams such as Fair Hearings, in a Health and Human Services setting. Desirable Qualifications 7+ years of experience with Adobe Creative Suite or Figma. 2–5 years of experience in user research, user modeling, and usability testing.
2–5 years of experience with CSS3, HTML5, and JavaScript. Additional Work Requirements Remote work is subject to direct manager approval and may change according to program needs. Consultants approved for 100% remote work must attend monthly in-person meetings at the Albany office and major milestone meetings as needed.
