School Nurse Location: Thornwood, New York Reports to: Head of School Compensation: $65,000 – $80,000 (commensurate with experience and qualifications) Housing: On-campus housing may be available for interested candidates Schedule: Full-Time | 3 days a week, 8:30 AM – 8:30 PM (includes some evening/overnight on-call responsibilities), 10-month position Welcome to EF Academy At EF Academy Thornwood, our campus is much more than a school.

Beyond managing our Health Center, you will serve as a comforting, dependable presence for teenagers who are navigating high school, often while living away from their families for the first time.

How You'll Care for Our Community Compassionate Clinical Care & Student Wellness Care with Heart: Warmly assess, triage, and care for students visiting the Health Center with acute illnesses, minor injuries, or ongoing health needs, offering a comforting and skilled presence.
Proactive Wellness: Empower students with supportive guidance on healthy everyday habits, including nutrition, hydration, sleep, illness prevention, and managing stress. Specialized Care & Referrals: Recognize when a student needs care beyond the Health Center and coordinate warm referrals to trusted primary care doctors, urgent care, specialists, or emergency services.
Attentive Follow-Up: Provide thoughtful ongoing care and monitoring for students as they recover from an illness, injury, or hospital visit, helping them transition back into campus life. Thorough Documentation: Maintain accurate, thoughtful, and strictly confidential records of student visits, assessments, and follow-up care.
Healthcare Coordination & Family Support Partnering with Families: Communicate with empathy, clarity, and reassurance to parents and guardians regarding significant health updates, medical appointments, or ongoing concerns across time zones. Guiding Global Students: Patiently help our international students navigate the U.
S. healthcare system, offering culturally sensitive guidance every step of the way. Collaborative Care: Partner closely with residential life staff, athletic coaches, counseling, faculty, and outside healthcare providers to build a strong safety net around each student. Seamless Appointments: Help coordinate student medical appointments, specialists, medical clearances, and transportation with local healthcare providers.
Confidentiality & Trust: Share necessary health information with school staff on a need-to-know basis to ensure student safety, while fiercely protecting student privacy. Emergency Preparedness & Campus Support Responsive Emergency Care: Serve as a calm, confident responder to medical emergencies across campus, coordinating seamlessly with EMS and local emergency providers when necessary.
Safety Preparedness: Maintain campus emergency readiness, including the oversight of AEDs, first-aid equipment, and Health Center medical supplies. Empowering Staff: Provide clear guidance and training for residential staff regarding evening and weekend health protocols, basic first aid, emergency response, and Epi. Pen administration.
Athletic Care: Support our student-athletes by assessing and caring for sports injuries, collaborating with coaches and residential staff on treatment plans and safe return-to-play protocols. Health Center Operations & Everyday Excellence Welcoming Environment: Oversee the daily operations of the Health Center, ensuring it remains an organized, spotlessly safe, and comforting space for students.
Safe Medication Management: Carefully authorize, administer, secure, and document prescription and over-the-counter medications in full accordance with medical orders and regulations. Health Records Oversight: Keep complete, up-to-date health records—including immunizations, physical exams, and health histories, ensuring strict compliance with privacy laws and school policies.
Continuous Improvement: Continuously refine Health Center workflows and protocols to elevate student safety and care quality. Professional Growth: Maintain current licensure, certifications, and active engagement in professional development to bring best practices to our campus.
Who You Are
Current and unrestricted New York State Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license and registration.
Education
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program. Certifications: Current CPR/AED and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Clinical Expertise: Demonstrated nursing experience with strong knowledge of clinical assessment, first aid, medication administration, infection control, and emergency response.
Privacy & Compliance: Solid understanding of health record privacy, confidentiality requirements, and regulatory standards. Relational Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a natural ability to build trusting relationships with teenagers, parents, colleagues, and healthcare providers. Multicultural Heart: Enthusiasm for working with adolescents in an international, multicultural residential community, where students are living away from home.
Calm Leadership: Demonstrated ability to exercise sound clinical judgment, stay calm under pressure, collaborate warmly with colleagues, and foster a student-centered environment. Preferred Experience 2 or more years of nursing experience, ideally in a school, pediatric, adolescent, residential, or boarding school environment.
Experience working with international students, residential boarding populations, and families from diverse cultural backgrounds. Language Skills: Fluency in a second language is highly preferred to support our global student body and international families.
