Position Summary

The Yard Spotter is responsible for safely moving, positioning, and organizing trailers within the company yard and at designated dock doors. This position helps ensure the efficient flow of inbound and outbound shipments while maintaining a safe and organized yard.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Safely operate a yard truck, spotter truck, or other designated equipment to move trailers throughout the facility yard. Position trailers at assigned loading and unloading dock doors. Remove trailers from dock doors and relocate them to designated yard locations. Conduct pre-use inspections of yard equipment and report any maintenance or safety concerns.

Perform visual inspections of trailers before moving them, including checking trailer doors, landing gear, tires, and overall condition. Communicate with shipping, receiving, warehouse, and operations teams to coordinate trailer movements. Maintain an organized yard and ensure trailers are parked in designated locations.

Monitor trailer locations and assist with tracking inbound and outbound equipment. Follow all company safety policies, traffic rules, and yard procedures. Report accidents, damage, unsafe conditions, or equipment issues immediately. Assist with other distribution center duties as needed.

Qualifications

Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous experience operating a yard truck, spotter truck, forklift, tractor, or similar equipment is required. Valid driver's license required. CDL is not required. Ability to safely operate equipment in a busy warehouse or distribution center environment. Ability to follow directions, work independently, and communicate effectively with team members.

Basic understanding of safety procedures and safe driving practices. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb in and out of equipment, and perform repetitive movements throughout the shift. Ability to safely perform job duties in an outdoor yard environment and around moving equipment.

Ability to lift and move items as needed, consistent with job requirements. Work Environment This position works primarily in an outdoor distribution center or warehouse yard and may be exposed to varying weather conditions, vehicle traffic, noise, and moving equipment.
