Allstate runs two very different hiring tracks and the public record only really covers one of them. Corporate roles (claims, customer service, underwriting, actuarial, technology) go through a recruiter-led, mostly virtual process that the company itself describes as behavioral, simulation or technical depending on the job, with STAR-structured answers expected and camera-on plus photo ID for US interviews. The Allstate exclusive-agency track is separate: exclusive agents are independent business owners, so a Licensed Sales Professional or CSR candidate is interviewed and paid by the individual agency owner rather than by Allstate corporate, and those loops are short, sales-focused and often end in a live objection-handling role play.
These 3 writeups cover sales, operations, software engineering and other roles, US agency-side, some UK/NI early careers. All of them were posted under a pseudonym (Reddit, GeeksforGeeks or forum handles), so we could not verify the authors’ identities.

Allstate’s official process
Allstate's own careers pages say you apply through the portal, get an acknowledgement email, and then hear from a recruiter only if you move forward. Interviews are usually virtual, and for US roles Allstate asks candidates to join on camera and to have valid photo ID ready at the start. The companion 'Interview tips' page says the role determines the format: behavioral interviews built on the job's core competencies and answered in STAR format; simulation interviews where you are given hypothetical situations and asked how you would handle them; and technical interviews for engineering/data roles that mix standard questions with problem solving, a technical proficiency test and coding in a language of your choice, with interviewers expecting you to narrate your reasoning and ask clarifying questions. The Allstate Northern Ireland arm publishes its own interview FAQ saying the process varies by role and level, may be virtual and/or in person, is competency-based plus technical, and that individual interviews typically run about 30 minutes.

Interview with the agency ownerHiring manager
A long-time producer who spent six years working for four different Allstate exclusive agents says he interviewed with at least a dozen agency owners in that time. Because each exclusive agent is an independent business owner, there is no corporate loop: the whole hiring decision, and the pay package, sit with the individual agent.
First interview with the agency ownerHiring manager
A sales professional with no insurance background applied to a local Allstate exclusive agency and had an initial conversation with the agent, who was willing to sponsor the licensing for the right candidate.

In-person sales role playPanel
The agent invited him back and told him up front the second meeting would be a role play in which the agent throws customer objections at him to see how he handles them. The candidate noted the agent had two openings and three candidates in play. He posted before the interview and never reported the result, so the outcome is unknown.
A student who first heard about Allstate at a university tech talk applied for the summer internship and went through a group interview in which, by her account, soft skills mattered far more than technical experience.

Internship to placement conversionFinal
At the end of the summer internship she was offered a year-long placement, so the internship itself functioned as the main filter and no separate technical loop was described.
