Job description

About the Role

The Teacher Assistant supports the Lead Teacher in maintaining a nurturing classroom environment and reinforcing daily lessons. This position requires a holistic approach to early childhood education, focusing on building respectful, trusting relationships with children and their families. Collaboration with staff is essential to strategize program development and ensure all health, safety, and nutrition standards are consistently met.

Core Responsibilities A significant focus of this role is encouraging parent involvement, advocating for families to access necessary support services, and recognizing parents as the primary influence on their child's development. The assistant actively participates in planning and implementing dynamic indoor and outdoor activities that promote emerging communication, motor, and social-emotional skills.

Maintaining accurate, confidential records—such as attendance and volunteer timesheets—and ensuring timely submission of required reports are also key daily functions. The role involves specific daily routines to maintain program integrity:

  • Monitoring shared spaces, including playgrounds, bathrooms, and vans, for potential health and safety hazards.
  • Managing the secure sign-in and sign-out process during drop-off and pick-up in accordance with CentroNía standards.
  • Ensuring each child is safely received by a parent or authorized individual at the end of the school day.
  • Assisting in the creation and execution of individualized daily programs tailored to the ages and developmental stages of the children.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must have at least one year of experience in an Early Childhood Education setting, demonstrating the capacity to observe children's behavior and assist with classroom planning.
  • A High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • A CDA Certification for Infants and Toddlers, or 90 clock hours in Early Childhood Education (including 45 hours in Curriculum and Instruction and 45 hours in Child Development).
  • Current CPR and First Aid certificates within 30 days of employment.
  • Effective English communication skills, with Bilingual (English-Spanish) abilities highly preferred.
  • CentroNía is an Equal Opportunity Employer and participates in E-Verify to confirm work authorization.
