What Does a Direct Support Professional Do? As a Direct Support Professional, you’ll help adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities build independence, develop life skills, participate in their communities, and work toward their personal goals.
Your responsibilities
Building Meaningful Relationships: Develop positive, respectful relationships with the people you support. Supporting Daily Living: Assist with cooking, personal care, hygiene, household tasks, and other activities of daily living. Promoting Independence: Encourage individuals to develop practical skills, make choices, and reach personal goals.
Connecting People With Their Communities: Support community outings, appointments, recreational activities, and opportunities for social engagement. Providing Medication Support: Administer medications according to training, authorization, and established procedures. Maintaining a Safe Environment: Help keep the home clean, comfortable, organized, and welcoming.
Documenting Care: Complete required documentation accurately and consistently. Advocating for Individual Rights: Respect each person's dignity, preferences, choices, and right to live a meaningful life. Every person has different goals, interests, and abilities. As a DSP, you’ll help create opportunities for individuals to grow, explore, and live life on their own terms.

Direct Support Professional Qualifications We’re looking for dependable, compassionate individuals who are ready to learn, work as part of a team, and make a positive difference in the lives of others. Required Qualifications Must be at least 18 years old.
High school diploma or GED. A valid driver’s license is required for all day-shift and swing-shift positions. Ability to pass a national background check. Ability to meet company driver approval requirements. Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and assist with mobility support as needed. Willingness to complete required training and follow established safety and support procedures.
