At ENC, we prioritize safety, quality, innovation, collaboration, and continuous growth – creating vehicles our teams can take pride in.
Founded in 1975, ENC (El. Dorado National – California) is a leading U.S. transportation manufacturer specializing in design, engineering, and end-to-end production of heavy-duty buses, shuttles, and cargo vehicles through a custom-build, mixed-model assembly process. Each vehicle is produced in our purpose-built facility in Riverside, California supporting public agencies and private transportation providers nationwide.
We offer one of the industry’s widest portfolios of power options, including 100% battery-electric, diesel-electric hybrid, CNG, and clean diesel. ENC is committed to revitalizing American manufacturing through innovation, customer focus, and the delivery of high-quality vehicles that keep communities connected, supported, and moving forward.
Electrical Process Engineer Location: Riverside, CA Salary Range: $80,000 - $115,000 Position Summary We are seeking an Electrical Process Engineer to develop and improve manufacturing processes for electrical systems in commercial vehicles, including low-voltage (LV) and high-voltage (HV) systems. This role translates electrical designs into production-ready bills of materials (BOMs), drawings, work instructions, and inspection procedures.
The successful candidate will work closely with design engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure wiring harnesses and electrical components are built and installed correctly, resolve manufacturing issues, and support new products from prototype builds through production.
Key Responsibilities
This list of essential duties is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties, as management may deem necessary from time to time. The team member must be able to perform each essential job duty identified below satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties of this position unless doing so would create an undue hardship.
Electrical Manufacturing Processes and Documentation Develop and maintain electrical production BOMs, harness assembly drawings, installation drawings, and work instructions based on approved engineering designs. Define assembly sequences, wire routing, connector installation, fastening requirements, and inspection points for LV and HV systems.
Establish requirements for production tools, crimping equipment, test fixtures, and electrical diagnostic equipment. Review electrical designs for manufacturability, installation access, serviceability, and error prevention. Coordinate engineering changes and ensure production documents reflect the correct revisions. Wiring and Harness Quality Establish inspection criteria for in-house and supplier-built wiring harnesses, including wire gauge, length, identification, pin assignments, terminal crimps, connector assembly, and workmanship.
Develop pre-installation verification procedures to detect wiring errors before harnesses are installed in vehicles. Define and implement continuity, short-circuit, polarity, and other applicable electrical checks. Verify that installed wiring has appropriate routing, support, protection, clearance, and strain relief.
Establish inspection requirements for HV cables and connections, including shielding, connector engagement, torque verification, and separation from other systems. Investigate recurring defects and implement corrective actions to reduce rework and improve assembly quality. Prototype Development and Functional Testing Support electrical assembly, commissioning, and functional verification of prototype vehicles and newly developed products.
Develop inspection plans, test procedures, acceptance criteria, and test records in coordination with design engineering and quality. Troubleshoot wiring, power distribution, grounding, sensors, actuators, controllers, and vehicle communication networks. Support HV system integration and troubleshooting involving battery packs, contactors, pre-charge circuits, inverters, DC/DC converters, and charging systems.
Perform or support high-voltage interlock loop (HVIL), insulation resistance, and other specified HV system checks using approved procedures. Support approved controller programming, software loading, and parameter configuration while maintaining configuration traceability. Document test results and coordinate issue resolution and retesting before production release.
Production Support and Continuous Improvement Provide hands-on technical support and train production personnel on electrical assembly, inspection, and troubleshooting procedures. Lead root-cause investigations for electrical manufacturing defects and verify the effectiveness of corrective actions. Improve assembly methods, workstation layouts, tooling, and test processes to increase consistency and efficiency.
Capture lessons learned from prototype builds and incorporate them into production documentation. Work with suppliers to resolve harness and electrical component manufacturing issues. Safety and Work Area Organization Develop and reinforce safe electrical assembly and testing practices, including applicable HV procedures.
Follow and support implementation of lockout/tagout, electrical isolation, and verification of absence of voltage procedures. Ensure appropriate use of rated test equipment, insulated tools, and personal protective equipment. Maintain safe and organized prototype and electrical test areas, including clear identification of vehicle energization status, restricted work areas, tools, and components.
Position Requirements Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a closely related engineering discipline is required. 5+ years of relevant electrical manufacturing or process engineering experience, including hands-on experience with commercial vehicles. Hands-on experience with HV electrical systems in electric or hybrid commercial vehicles is required, including battery packs, HV power distribution, contactors, pre-charge circuits, inverters, DC/DC converters, and charging systems.
Experience developing electrical assembly processes, production BOMs, work instructions, and inspection or test procedures. Ability to interpret LV and HV electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, connector pinouts, 2D drawings, and 3D assembly models. Strong knowledge of automotive wiring harness construction, crimping, connectors, grounding, circuit protection, and power distribution.
Experience with HV cable installation, routing, inspection, HVIL verification, and insulation resistance testing. Hands-on ability to troubleshoot vehicle electrical systems using multimeters, insulation resistance testers, diagnostic software, and other appropriate test equipment. Experience following HV safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, verification of absence of voltage, and proper use of rated equipment and personal protective equipment.
Working knowledge of CAN bus communication and vehicle control systems. Understanding of programming fundamentals, controller configuration, and software loading procedures. Experience with engineering change control, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions. Strong documentation, communication, and cross-functional problem-solving skills.
Ability to work regularly on the production floor and around prototype vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications
Master of Science (MS) in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline preferred. Experience with electric bus or truck manufacturing and new vehicle production launches. Knowledge of battery management systems and their integration with vehicle controls. Familiarity with SAE J1939 vehicle networks and CAN diagnostic tools.
Experience with harness design software, electrical CAD tools, and ERP/MRP systems. Experience developing end-of-line electrical tests and automated test fixtures. Experience with process failure mode and effects analysis (PFMEA), control plans, error-proofing, and new product introduction. Work Environment This is an onsite position based in Riverside, CA and requires being onsite.
