Job description
The Accountant, Senior primary responsibility is to lead the accounting close and support accounting processes, ensuring that transactions are appropriately approved and recorded accurately in the general ledger and other financial analysis. Role and Responsibilities Leads assigned areas of the monthly and year-end close process, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and financial analysis.
Ensure timely and accurate reconciliation of sub-ledger activity to the general ledger and research and resolves identified variances. Prepares and maintains balance sheet reconciliations and supporting documentation in accordance with established close timelines. Prepares and review monthly recurring and non-recurring journal entries, including accruals, allocations, reclassifications, and other adjusting entries.
Supports grant accounting activities, including review of grant-related revenue and expenses, account reconciliations, funding and receivable activity, and preparation of supporting activities. Review grant expenditures for appropriate coding, departmental and funding-source allocation, and compliance with applicable grant requirements.
Supports grant billing, reimbursement requests, revenue recognition, receivable reconciliation, and grant closeout activities, as applicable. Works with program, finance, and grant personnel to research and resolve grant-related accounting discrepancies and ensure accurate financial reporting. Supports annual financial statement audits, compliance audits, and other external reporting requirements by preparing schedules and responding to documentation requests.
Identifies accounting issues, process gaps, and reconciliation of discrepancies and works with management to develop appropriate resolutions. Provides accounting guidance and technical support to Staff Accountants and other accounting personnel as needed Partners with Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, and Controller on special projects, process improvements, system enhancements, and other accounting issues.
Performs other duties and projects as assigned. Supervisory Responsibility This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Required Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with at least two years of accounting work experience. Must be computer literate with a wide knowledge of windows based software, accounting based. software, report writing software, and intermediate/advanced level of Excel. Must have good communication skills Supervisory skills preferred CPA preferred.
Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk or hear. The ability to cope with and tolerate moderate levels of stress is also a necessity.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
