Bring your creativity to the kitchen at Garden Spot Village! As a Prep Cook, you’ll help make mealtime special by preparing fresh salads, delicious pastries, and other dishes our residents look forward to. From everyday dining to campus events, you’ll help create food that looks great, tastes delicious, and meets our residents’ nutritional needs and preferences.

What You’ll Do

• Prepare fresh salads, fruit dishes, cold food items, pastries, desserts, and other menu selections.
• Wash, peel, chop, and portion ingredients to help keep the kitchen running smoothly.
• Follow recipes and preparation instructions to deliver consistent flavor, quality, and presentation.
• Add the finishing touches by arranging, garnishing, and presenting food with care.
• Assist with baking and preparing pastries and desserts according to recipes and production needs.
• Support our Dining Services restaurants and campus events with timely food preparation.
• Prepare items for residents with special dietary needs, following instructions and food allergy precautions.
• Help monitor ingredient freshness, rotate stock, label and store food properly, and minimize waste.
• Receive inventory and move and lift food supplies as needed.
• Keep workstations, tools, and equipment clean, sanitized, and ready for use.
• Follow all food handling, sanitation, HACCP, and safety requirements.
• Work closely with the dining team to provide friendly, dependable service.
• Participate in required food safety, allergy awareness, and staff development training.
• Report accidents, injuries, and safety concerns promptly.
• Pitch in with additional kitchen responsibilities as assigned.

• Someone who enjoys preparing fresh food and adding thoughtful touches to every plate.
• Basic knowledge of food preparation, kitchen tools, and safe food handling practices.
• The ability to follow recipes, measure ingredients, and prepare consistent portions.
• Attention to detail, organization, and a commitment to cleanliness.
• A cooperative spirit and a friendly, professional approach with residents, coworkers, and guests.
• A willingness to learn new skills and participate in ongoing training.
• A commitment to supporting Garden Spot Village’s Mission and Philosophy.
• Availability to work scheduled weekends and holidays, with flexibility for occasional schedule changes on short notice.
• Previous food preparation, baking, or pastry experience is a plus, along with food-related coursework or ServSafe training!

Additional Information

This position is full-time 8:00am-4:30pm with rotating weekend schedule
