Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The Access Control Officers safeguards BC US LLC people, animals, property, and information. This role manages and monitors entry and exit to secure the facility. The Access Control Officer will be responsible for verifying visitors’ credentials, and preventing unauthorized access to the property.

Key Responsibilities

Access Control & Visitor Management Operate gatehouse/badge station; validate IDs, credentials, and work authorizations per SOP. Issue/collect visitor and contractor badges; maintain visitor logs and confidentiality acknowledgments. Enforce entry/exit policies for barrier areas, PPE requirements, and restricted zones.

Patrols, Monitoring & Asset Protection Conduct scheduled and random patrols (perimeter, cages/compounds exterior, offices, warehouses, utility rooms). Monitor CCTV, intrusion, fire, and environmental alarms; escalate and document alerts. Inspect doors/gates/fences/locks/lighting, report hazards, damage, and tampering.

Documentation & Continuous Improvement Maintain daily activity logs, key control logs, incident reports, access exception logs, and alarm test records. Recommend improvements to lighting, cameras, procedures, and signage. Incident Response & Reporting Respond to incidents (injury, trespass, suspicious activity, spills, weather, power) using ICS/SOP guidance.

Preserve scenes, support first aid until relieved, coordinate with leadership/EHS, and contact law enforcement/EMS as directed. Complete accurate, time-stamped reports, logs, and photo documentation; maintain chain-of-custody where applicable. Biosecurity, EHS & Compliance Support Support biosecurity controls (traffic flow, footwear/PPE, vehicle checks as applicable).

Assist with emergency drills (fire, severe weather, evacuation, containment). Follow OSHA/EHS rules, report near misses and unsafe conditions immediately. Shipping/Receiving & Contractor Oversight Verify vendor/driver identity and authorization; escort visitors/contractors to approved areas. Conduct basic vehicle/parcel checks per policy, document after-hours deliveries and exceptions.

Customer Service & Cross-Functional Partnership Provide professional assistance to employees, visitors, and regulators. Coordinate with Husbandry, Veterinary, Behavior & Welfare, Processing, Facilities, QA, and HR to minimize operational disruption.

EDUCATION

& EXPERIENCE Required: High school diploma or equivalent; valid driver’s license and insurable driving record. Preferred: 0-2 years’ experience in monitoring access, patrolling areas and closed perimeters REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES Professional presence, sound judgment, and de-escalation skills. Clear verbal/written communication; accurate report writing and radio etiquette.

Basic proficiency with computers (email, incident software, CCTV/alarms, badge systems). Situational awareness, attention to detail, confidentiality, and integrity. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
