  • Jupiter, FL, Salary Range: Undisclosed, a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb; } tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #e6e6e6; } tr th { background-color: #f5f5f5; } Rod Person Duties & Responsibilities Position Summary The Rod Person assists the Party Chief and Instrument Person in performing land surveying and construction staking activities. This position is responsible for preparing equipment and materials, assisting with field operations, setting stakes, collecting field data, and ensuring all work is completed safely, accurately, and efficiently. Reports To: Party Chief / Survey Manager Daily Start-Up Procedures Arrive at work by 6:15 a.m., parked and ready to begin daily preparations. Take the company truck to the supply area and load all necessary tools, materials, and equipment needed for the day's assignments. Ensure all low or depleted supplies are replenished before leaving the office. Review the daily work list to verify all required materials and equipment have been loaded. Return the truck to the front office area, fill the cooler with ice, and remain available for instructions from the Party Chief. Verify all tools and materials are organized and ready for the workday. Job Site Responsibilities Upon arrival at each job site, report to the Party Chief for work assignments and direction. Coordinate with the Instrument Person to confirm all necessary tools, materials, and supplies are available to complete the project. Carry extra materials whenever possible to accommodate larger-than-expected projects. Keep the following items readily available: Marker Paint can Bull pin Ribbon and nails Small measuring tape Stake Installation & Marking Ensure all stakes are driven securely into the ground to prevent displacement during construction activities. Verify that all stake descriptions, flagging, and markings are accurate and legible. Clearly mark elevations on grading stakes when required. Confirm all grading, cut, and fill descriptions are correct (e.g., GR., C-1', etc.). Paint stakes during grading activities to improve visibility and reduce unnecessary rework. Ensure grade marks are level, uniform, and clearly visible on all sides. Verify that all stake markings are accurate and readable for equipment operators. Equipment & Material Management Use a supply belt when required for efficient handling of nails, ribbon, markers, and measuring tools. Contact your supervisor if a supply belt is needed. Return all tools and equipment to the company vehicle upon completion of each job. Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition. At the end of each workday, return all equipment, supplies, and materials to their designated locations and ensure they are ready for use the following day. Breaks & Hydration Observe the following scheduled breaks: 15-minute morning break 30-minute lunch break 15-minute afternoon break Stay properly hydrated throughout the day. Take additional breaks when necessary to ensure personal health and safety. Safety Requirements Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) The following PPE must be worn at all times while performing work duties: Company-issued safety vest Safety glasses Hard hat Gloves Boots Vehicle Safety Seat belts must be worn at all times when operating or riding in company vehicles. Water Hazards Safety vests must be worn when collecting as-built information near lakes, canals, ponds, or other bodies of water. Excavation Safety Do not enter utility excavations that are not properly sloped, protected, or secured. Do not enter excavations exceeding four (4) feet in depth unless proper safety measures have been implemented in accordance with company safety requirements. Weather Safety Do not set up GPS rods, Leica rods, or any survey equipment during lightning storms, heavy rain, or other severe weather conditions. Equipment Security & Care Secure all equipment in designated lock boxes when not in use to prevent theft. Wipe down equipment that becomes wet during use. Ensure equipment is completely dry before storing it in its case or the equipment room. If equipment remains fogged or damp at the end of the day, allow it to air dry completely before storage. End-of-Day Responsibilities Confirm all tools and equipment are accounted for. Return all materials to their designated storage locations. Clean and maintain equipment as needed. Leave the truck, equipment, and work area organized and prepared for the next workday.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous surveying, construction, or utility experience preferred. Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team. Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety. Valid driver's license preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Ability to walk long distances over uneven terrain and active construction sites. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and climb for extended periods.
