Lawn Care and Growth Specialist
Job description
Lawn Care & Growth Specialist
Company: Joshua Tree Experts
Location: Salt Lake City, Utah
Employment Type: Full-Time | Year-Round Growth Opportunity
About the Position
Joshua Tree Experts is expanding our lawn care services in the Salt Lake City area, and we are looking for the right person to help us build this part of our business from the ground up.
This is not just a seasonal lawn technician position.
We are looking for someone with lawn care experience who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in their work, is comfortable talking with customers, and is excited about helping grow a business. This person will be one of the first key team members in our lawn care division and will have the opportunity to take on greater responsibility as the division grows.
During the lawn care season, you will perform fertilizer and weed-control applications while building relationships with customers and helping generate new business in the neighborhoods we serve. During the off-season and slower periods, a significant part of the position will focus on customer acquisition, neighborhood canvassing, lead generation, training, equipment preparation, and helping prepare for the upcoming season.
For the right person, this is intended to become a long-term, year-round position with significant opportunity for growth and leadership.
What You'll Do
- Perform professional lawn fertilization, weed control, and other lawn care applications.
- Identify common turf weeds, lawn problems, insects, and other issues affecting customer lawns.
- Safely mix, load, apply, and handle lawn care products according to label requirements and company procedures.
- Communicate with customers about their lawns, treatments performed, and recommended services.
- Build strong relationships with customers and provide an excellent customer experience.
- Help grow our lawn care customer base through neighborhood canvassing and lead generation.
- Knock on doors and speak with homeowners in neighborhoods where we are already providing services.
- Distribute door hangers and other marketing materials around existing customer properties and targeted neighborhoods.
- Offer homeowners the opportunity to receive a lawn care quote and collect qualified leads for follow-up.
- Identify opportunities for additional lawn care, plant health care, pest control, and tree care services.
- Work independently and efficiently while managing a daily service route.
- Maintain accurate application and customer records.
- Properly maintain and care for spray equipment, vehicles, and other company equipment.
- Participate in training and continually improve your knowledge of turf care, products, application techniques, and customer service.
- Help improve processes and provide feedback as we develop and grow the lawn care division.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who wants more than simply being handed a route and told which lawns to treat.
The right person will be:
- Experienced in lawn care, fertilization, weed control, landscaping, pest control, or a related field.
- Comfortable talking with customers and potential customers.
- Willing and able to knock doors and generate new business.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently without constant supervision.
- Goal-oriented and motivated by helping build something.
- Reliable and accountable.
- Positive, professional, and easy to work with.
- Comfortable working outdoors and performing physical work.
- Interested in learning and taking on additional responsibility.
- Able to recognize problems and find solutions.
- Interested in a long-term career and advancement opportunity rather than simply seasonal employment.
Previous lawn application experience and knowledge of Utah turf and weeds are strongly preferred.
A Different Kind of Lawn Care Opportunity
We are building this division with the intention of growing it substantially over the next several years.
The person who joins us in this role will have the opportunity to be there from the beginning.
As the customer base grows, we expect to add additional lawn technicians, equipment, routes, and services. A person who demonstrates strong performance, leadership, reliability, and ownership of the division's goals will have the opportunity to grow with it and potentially take on responsibility for training employees, managing routes, overseeing technicians, and helping lead the lawn care and pest control operation.
We aren't looking for someone who simply wants to complete applications and go home.
We're looking for someone who can say:
"Give me a goal, and I'll help figure out how we get there."
Customer Growth & Sales
Growing our customer base is an important part of this position.
Team members should be comfortable approaching homeowners, having short conversations about our services, distributing marketing materials, generating leads, asking for referrals, and identifying opportunities while servicing existing customers.
You do not need to be a high-pressure salesperson.
You do need to be comfortable starting conversations, hearing "no," staying positive, and continuing to work toward a goal.
Performance incentives and opportunities for additional compensation will be available for helping grow the lawn care business.
What We Offer
- Full-time employment with the goal of providing year-round work.
- Competitive hourly compensation based on experience.
- Performance and growth incentives.
- Training and professional development.
- Opportunity to help build a growing lawn care and pest control division.
- Advancement opportunities as the division adds customers, routes, and employees.
- Modern equipment and professional products.
- A company that values hard work, reliability, teamwork, improvement, and finding a way to get the job done.
Our Core Values
- Work Hard / Play Hard: We work hard, take pride in what we accomplish, and enjoy being part of a strong team.
- Improve and Adapt: We are always looking for better ways to serve our customers and operate our business.
- Reliable: Our customers and teammates can count on us to do what we say we will do.
- Team Player: We help each other succeed and understand that the team's success matters more than individual recognition.
- Find a Way: Problems are going to happen. We look for solutions, take ownership, and find a way forward.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to perform physical outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials required for lawn applications.
- Comfortable communicating directly with homeowners.
- Comfortable with neighborhood canvassing and door-to-door lead generation.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Lawn care or related industry experience preferred.
- Utah pesticide applicator license preferred; ability and willingness to obtain required licensing if not currently licensed.
The Opportunity
If you're already good at lawn care but feel capable of doing more than simply running a route, this may be the opportunity you're looking for.
We're looking for someone who wants to help us build a great lawn care business, develop a large base of recurring customers, and grow into greater responsibility as the operation expands.
Come help us build it.
