Heavy-Duty Alignment and Suspension Technician

A heavy-duty alignment technician is a specialized mechanic who inspects, diagnoses, and adjusts the steering, suspension, and axle angles of large commercial vehicles, such as semi-trucks, class 5–8 trucks Key Responsibilities Diagnose Alignment Issues: Use electronic sensors, lasers, and digital diagnostic tools to measure camber, caster, toe, and thrust angles against OEM specifications.

Inspect Systems: Check critical components for wear or damage, including kingpins, bushings, tie rods, torque arms, hangers, and frame integrity Make Adjustments and Repairs: Adjust shims, tie rods, and cam bushings, or straighten/align axles to fix pulling, steering drift, and irregular tire wear. Tandem Alignment: Ensure rear drive axles and towed trailers track straight behind the tractor so the vehicle does not dog-track or create excessive rolling resistance.
