Position Overview
The Adult Education Instructor plays a critical role in advancing participant success through education, occupational training readiness, and career pathway development at an assigned Ready, Willing & Able program site. Reporting to the Manager of Education and Training, this position serves as the primary facilitator of Education and Training services, including Computer Essentials instruction, Education and Training planning, occupational training preparation, and TABE assessment administration as needed.
The Adult Education Instructor is responsible for engaging participants in educational programming, guiding trainees through individualized training and career planning, and supporting successful transitions into occupational training and workforce development services. While primarily assigned to one program location, the position may occasionally provide support at other program sites for special projects, testing coverage, training initiatives, or departmental events.
This role also carries significant administrative responsibility, requiring consistent and accurate documentation of participant engagement, educational progress, assessments, and outcomes within departmental tracking systems. This position serves as the primary Education and Training representative for the assigned program site and collaborates closely with Workforce Development, Case Management, and facility leadership to support participant success.
Core Responsibilities Education and Training Planning and Coaching Conduct Education and Training intakes and create individualized plans that outline each participant's training and career pathway. Facilitate ongoing coaching conversations to guide trainees in selecting and adjusting occupational training tracks based on goals, interests, and readiness.
Ensure all Education and Training Plans are completed, maintained, and consistently updated. Provide recommendations regarding participant readiness for occupational training opportunities. Maintain detailed and timely case notes documenting participant interactions, progress, referrals, and outcomes. Refer participants to educational resources including ESL, Adult Basic Education, GED programs, and occupational training opportunities.
Computer Essentials Facilitation Facilitate Computer Essentials classes at the assigned program site. Deliver curriculum in accordance with Education and Training standards and learning objectives. Create an engaging classroom environment that promotes participation, digital literacy skill development, and learner confidence.
Monitor trainee attendance, participation, and progress throughout the course. Provide individualized support and coaching to trainees requiring additional assistance. Reinforce the connection between digital literacy, occupational training readiness, and employment success. Collaborate with Workforce Development staff and facility leadership to support participant engagement and retention.
TABE Administration and Assessment Serve as a TABE Proctor and administer assessments as needed. Facilitate TABE orientations and prepare trainees for the testing process. Coordinate testing schedules and participant participation with facility staff. Accurately document attendance, test completion, and assessment results in The Doe Fund's Client Tracking Database.
Utilize assessment outcomes to inform participant educational and occupational training planning. Support department-wide TABE initiatives and testing coverage when necessary. Occupational Training Integration Educate participants on available occupational training opportunities, eligibility requirements, expectations, and career pathways.
Support recruitment and enrollment efforts for occupational training programs. Reinforce the connection between education, skill development, occupational training participation, and employment outcomes. Collaborate with training partners and internal departments to support participant success throughout the training process.
Program Orientations and Internal Collaboration Facilitate Education and Training orientations that introduce participants to available services, educational opportunities, and training pathways. Attend and actively participate in case conferences, staff meetings, and departmental planning meetings. Collaborate with Workforce Development staff to align participant educational goals with employment objectives.
Partner with Case Management and facility leadership to support participant engagement and progression through the Ready, Willing & Able program. Alumni Engagement and Program Support Support and attend program-wide events, including Alumni BBQs, Graduation ceremonies, hiring events, and other participant engagement activities.
Conduct follow-up outreach and provide educational referrals when appropriate. Support departmental initiatives designed to increase participant engagement and long-term success. Administrative and Data Tracking Responsibilities Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely documentation of all participant engagement and services.
Enter and track participant data within The Doe Fund's Client Tracking Database. Maintain departmental trackers related to Education and Training Plans, attendance, TABE outcomes, occupational training referrals, and participant engagement. Ensure all documentation meets departmental standards for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
Support reporting requirements and data requests from leadership and external stakeholders. Demonstrate strong organizational skills and accountability while managing multiple responsibilities and deadlines.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree preferred Ability to facilitate adult education classes and engage diverse learners in a classroom environment. Strong facilitation, coaching, and participant engagement skills. Minimum of two years of experience in adult education, workforce development, or a related field Experience working with individuals impacted by homelessness, substance use, or the criminal justice system is preferred Ability to work independently while serving as the primary Education and Training representative at an assigned program site.
Flexibility to provide occasional support at other program locations for training, testing, special events, and departmental initiatives.
