Surface Water As a multi-disciplined consulting firm, DOWL is organized into specialized market sectors. You will join DOWL’s Surface Water team for the summer, working alongside experienced professionals on projects involving rivers and streams, irrigation infrastructure, stormwater and drainage, dams, and hydraulic structures.
Summary As an intern at DOWL, you will join a team of engineers and contribute to water resources projects throughout the summer. In return for your determination and enthusiasm, we’ll provide the resources, mentorship, and experience you need to advance your career in water resources engineering. During the internship, the successful candidate will perform engineering calculations, support project work using GIS and CAD applications, communicate effectively with team members both verbally and in writing, and participate in field work as assigned.

Qualifications

The minimum qualifications for this position include: One to two years of college-level coursework in pursuit of a baccalaureate degree in civil or environmental engineering, preferably with a focus on water. Completion of one semester of college-level coursework in open channel hydraulics. Completion of one semester of college-level coursework in hydrology.
Driving is an essential job function valid driver’s license is required. Desired qualifications also include: Prior work experience in construction or civil engineering-related fields. Extensive work experience, including experience outside the engineering field, will distinguish applicants.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with field investigations, alternatives analysis, cost estimating, technical report writing, and design. Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses. Other engineering-related duties as assigned. Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents. Ability to communicate with and effectively present information to coworkers.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract variables. Able to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to work with mathematical concepts, such as statistics, probability, and trigonometry.
Physical Demands and Work Environment While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk. The employee is required to talk and to hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The work environment is generally an office setting, but intermittent field work is expected. The noise level in the office environment is usually moderate, while noise on construction sites may be high and require the use of hearing protection.
