Principal Planner Winchester | £45,000–£56,000 plus benefits An independent planning practice in Winchester is looking for a Principal Planner to join its close-knit team. The workload is varied, the client contact is genuine and good people are trusted with responsibility early. It is suited to someone who wants visible responsibility without losing the support of experienced colleagues. The role You will work across housing, rural development, commercial schemes, appeals and local plan representations. Depending on seniority, you will lead or support instructions from initial appraisal to determination and beyond.

Prepare clear planning appraisals, statements and strategic advice. Manage planning applications and coordinate technical inputs. Maintain regular, professional communication with clients and project teams. Negotiate constructively with local planning authorities and other stakeholders. Review work produced by junior colleagues and support their development.

Contribute to fee proposals, client development and the commercial management of projects.

About you

Mrtpi preferred; strong application management; sound knowledge of planning policy and appeals. You should also be organised, dependable and able to explain planning issues in straightforward language. The business is interested in people who value good advice and long-term client relationships rather than unnecessary internal politics.

Package and working arrangements The salary is £45,000–£56,000 plus benefits. The wider package includes flexible working, pension, professional fees and genuine autonomy.
